Evaluation of Barriers and Facilitators to Smart Mobility and Logistics

Abstract

Smart mobility and logistics applications, an essential component for sustainable cities and communities, are a popular approach for both the industrial sector and the public’s quality of life. Rapid population growth gradually increases the pace of urbanization, and various challenges arise in mobility and logistics activities due to social, environmental, technological, financial, etc. factors. The main purpose of this study is to systematically identify and evaluate the key barriers and facilitators impacting smart mobility and logistics. To achieve these goals, an extensive background is advanced, categorizing the factors into five main criteria: Governance, Social, Economic, Technology, Environment, and twenty-five sub-criteria. The Best-to-Worst Method (BWM) is used to calculate the weights of these factors, and the consistency of the findings is validated. By identifying and analyzing the critical factors, this paper aims to offer actionable insights for improving more sustainable cities and communities. The findings indicate that economic and technological criteria emerge as the most influential factors. These results offer a robust decision-support tool for governments, urban planners, and managers, helping to align smart mobility and logistics development with sustainability goals.
