Yıl 2022, Cilt: 8 Sayı: 1, 34 - 40, 31.03.2021

Men's unhealthy lifestyle behaviours in the preconception period can lead to negative pregnancy outcomes. Recent researches have shown that fathers influence children's health in many ways. Preconception counselling and care services have many positive effects on pregnancy and delivery process, reproductive health and general health of the people. For this reason, preconception health care for men is important in terms of achieving positive pregnancy outcomes and developing healthy families in the future. Preconception care services for men include risk assessment, health promotion, clinical and psychosocial interventions. Although men's benefit from these services is important in many respects, this issue is not given enough attention yet. The reasons for males not receiving preconception care are include lack of clinical organization, financial disabilities, lack of knowledge and awareness about the subject. Considering the impact of preconception counseling and care on pregnancy outcomes, these services should not be limited to women. It should not be forgotten that this care should be given to couples together and men also need preconception services. The aim of this review is to examine the importance, benefits and content of preconception services for men and draw attention to the importance of this issue by discussing the obstacles in providing preconception services.
