Incidental Detection of FDG-Avid Pulmonary Lesion on PET/CT in a Patient Referred for Hepatic Lesion Evaluation: Chronic Granulomatous Disease Mimicking Malignancy

Abstract

We would like to report a patient referred for 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging for the evaluation of a non-FDG-avid liver lesion. However, an incidental FDG-avid lesion was determined in the posterobasal segment of the right lung. Subsequent biopsy of the pulmonary lesion revealed chronic granulomatous inflammation. This case highlights the importance of whole-body imaging in detecting unexpected clinically significant findings and highlights the role of PET/CT in identifying infectious or inflammatory processes beyond oncologic indications.
