THE CHALLENGES THAT PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS FACE IN GAINING INFORMATION LITERACY SKILLS
Abstract
Information literacy consists of finding, retrieving, analyzing and using information by using a wide range of sources. The aim of this study is to examine the challenges that prospective teachers face in gaining the skills related to information literacy. We aimed to see if students' views differed in terms of gender, university entrance score and department variables. The population of the study consists of fourth year students enrolled at the Faculty of Education of Fyrat University. The whole population was considered as the sample of the study. "Media Literacy Scale" developed by Polat (2005) was used as data collection tool. Independent samples t test and One way Anova were used to analyze the data. Students' views differed toward in terms of gender, university entrance scores and department variables.
