The
municipalities are the most important establishments among the local
governments for solving urban problems and for meeting the needs. During the
fulfilment of such services, there is a requirement for employees who undertake
additional roles apart from their job descriptions, show voluntary behaviours,
contribute positively. The attitudes and behaviours of the executives play a
great part in the creation of such behaviours. A leader who appreciates his/her
employees, empathises with them, looks out for the benefits of his/her members;
will ensure that the organizational citizenship behaviours are adopted in the
organization and that the work satisfaction of the employees is increased. The purpose of this research is to
determine the servant leadership perception of the employees working at the
municipalities’ and to exhibit the relations between their perception and the
organisational citizenship behaviours and work satisfaction. Within this scope,
641 surveys have been conducted in İstanbul, İzmir and Adapazarı municipalities
in total. The data has been analysed by using SPSS 22.0 statistics package
programme. According to the findings, there is a high level positive
relationship between the extent of servant leadership and the extent of work
satisfaction. There is a middle level positive relationship between the extent
of servant leadership and the extent of organisational citizenship.
