The publicity of the destination is one of the most important elements of tourism demand in order to create a destination image and attract new visitors to the destination. The tools and methods used in the publicity of a destination are of the most importance. The correct selection and effective use of these tools further increases the importance of these tools. It should be ensured that the potential visitor can easily be informed about the richness and attractiveness of the destination. To achieve this, accurate and effective promotional tools should be used. Websites and content for local governments is one of these tools.
In this study, it is aimed to determine the use of the websites of municipalities in Kayseri as a publicity tool and the activities of municipalities in this regard. The web pages of 15 municipalities in Kayseri in Turkey were analyzed by content analysis and the data were analyzed by usingMann-Whitney U test. Suggestions have been developed to compare the results and bring them to the attention of local governments. It can be said that municipalities are insufficient to presentactivities and suggestions via the web page. Although local governments want tourism development in their regions, they need to show their efforts more. Municipalities can use corporate web pages more effectively as a promotional tool. It would be useful to overcome some problems, especially the technical obstacles they face. Sufficient technical personnel should be employed and effective in this regard.
The study, on the other hand, contains useful results for the academicians considering the study as well as the municipalities.
