The Career Future Inventory Short Form: Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the validity and reliability of the Career Futures Inventory-Short Form (CFI-SF) in a sample of Turkish undergraduate students. Data were collected online from 230 Turkish undergraduate students (185 women, 43 men, and 2 who preferred not to disclose their gender). Participants ranged in age from 18 to 39 years. The confirmatory factor analysis results revealed that the two-factor structure (career adaptability and career optimism) of the Turkish CFI-SF provided a good fit with the data. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were found to be .81 for the career adaptability factor and .89 for the career optimism factor. The concurrent validity of the CFI-SF was examined by investigating its relationships with career aspirations and career decision-making self-efficacy. The career adaptability and career optimism factors were positively correlated with career decision-making self-efficacy. In addition, career adaptability and career optimism were positively correlated with educational, achievement, and leadership aspirations. Overall, the findings indicate that the Turkish CFI-SF demonstrates a two-factor structure (career adaptability and career optimism) in the sample of Turkish undergraduate students.
