Pandemi Döneminde Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Anksiyete Düzeyi ile Sigara ve Sosyal Medya Kullanım Alışkanlıkları Arasındaki İlişki

Abstract

Amaç: Bu araştırma, COVID-19 Pandemisinin sağlık alanındaki üniversite öğrencileri üzerindeki etkisini belirleyerek, öğrencilerin COVID-19 pademisi karşısında yaşadıkları anksiyete ile sigara ve sosyal medya kullanım alışkanlıklar arasındaki değişimi incelemek amacı ile yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Kesitsel araştırma yöntemi ile yapılan bu çalışma, 2022-2023 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Ankara Medipol Üniversitesi Tıp, Diş ve Sağlık Bilimleri fakültesinde öğrenim gören 300 kadın 251erkek öğrenci üzerinde yapıldı. Araştırmada Beck anksiyete ölçeği, Koronavirüs Anksiyete Ölçeği, Fagerström Nikotin Bağımlılık Testi (FNBT) ile Sosyal Medya Bağımlılık Ölçeği kullanıldı. Bulgular: Araştırmada öğrencilerin %18,1’i pandemi öncesinde sigara kullanırken pandemi sonrasında (şu an) %28,1’e çıktığı, %72,4’nün sigaranın COVID-19 riskini arttırdığını düşündükleri ve %76’ sının günde 4-6 saat sosyal medya kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin anksiyetelerinin daha fazla olduğu ancak sağlık bilimleri fakültesindeki öğrencilerin hem nikotin bağımlılık puanlarının hem de sosyal medya bağımlılıklarının daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05). Ayrıca ölçekler arasında pozitif korelasyon olduğu, anksiyete arttıkça sigara kullanımı ile sosyal medya kullanımında da bir artış olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0,05). Sonuç: COVID-19 korkusunun, anksiyete ile sigara ve sosyal medya kullanımını üzerinde bir etkisi olduğu düşünülebilir. COVID-19 ile birlikte hayatlarımıza giren sosyal izolasyon sonucunda öğrenciler sosyal medya ile sigara kullanımına yönelim gösterebilir.

The Relationship between Anxiety Levels and Smoking and Social Media Habits in University Students during the Pandemic Period

Abstract

Aim: In this study, the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on university students in the field of health was determined. The research was conducted to examine the change between the anxiety experienced by the students in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and their smoking and social media usage habits. Material and Methods: This study, which was conducted with the relational research method, was carried out on 300 female 251 male students studying at Ankara Medipol University Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences in the spring term of 2022-2023 academic year. This study were used scales that Beck anxiety scale, Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, Fagerström Nicotine Addiction Test (FNBT) and Social Media Addiction Scale, respectively. Results: In the study, 18.1% of the students were smoking before the pandemic, while it increased to 28.1% after the pandemic (currently), 72.4% thought that smoking increased the risk of COVID-19, and 76% said that they were socializing 4-6 hours a day. media use was determined. It was determined that medical faculty students had more anxiety, but both nicotine addiction scores and social media addictions of students in health sciences faculty were higher (p<0.05). In addition, it was determined that there was a positive correlation between the scales, and as anxiety increased, there was an increase in smoking and social media use (p<0.05). Conclusion: It can be thought that fear of COVID-19 has an effect on anxiety and on smoking and social media use. As a result of the social isolation that has entered our lives with COVID-19, students may tend to use social media and smoking.
