The Relationship Between Self-Efficacy, Psychological Resilience, and Perfectionism in Adolescents: A Descriptive Study

Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, psychological resilience, and perfectionism in adolescents and to evaluate the effect of self-efficacy on psychological resilience and perfectionism. Material and methods: The study was conducted with a descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The sample included 250 adolescents aged 14–16 attending a public high school in the city center of a province in southern Türkiye between January and March 2024. Participants were selected using simple random sampling, and data were collected via face-to-face questionnaires. Data were obtained using the Personal Information Form, the Self-Efficacy Scale for Children, the Child and Youth Resilience Measure, and the Child and Adolescent Perfectionism Scale and analyzed using SPSS. Relationships between variables were assessed with Pearson correlation and simple linear regression analyses. Results: Findings indicated that participants’ self-efficacy was at a moderate level (61.26 ± 12.48), psychological resilience was above average (44.36 ± 7.52), and perfectionism was above average (61.48 ± 11.02). A significant positive relationship was found between self-efficacy and psychological resilience (r = 0.536, p < 0.001). Regression analysis showed that self-efficacy had a significant positive effect on psychological resilience (R² = 0.288, p < 0.001). No significant relationship was found between self-efficacy and perfectionism (r = 0.023, p = 0.716), and self-efficacy did not significantly affect perfectionism (R² = 0.001, p = 0.716). Conclusion: The study demonstrates that self-efficacy in adolescents is strongly and positively associated with psychological resilience and has a significant positive effect on it, while it shows no significant relationship with perfectionism.

Ergenlerde Öz-yeterlik, Psikolojik Sağlamlık ve Mükemmeliyetçilik Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi: Tanımlayıcı Bir Çalışma

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışma, ergenlerde öz-yeterlik, psikolojik sağlamlık ve mükemmeliyetçilik arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemeyi ve öz-yeterliğin psikolojik sağlamlık ile mükemmeliyetçilik üzerindeki etkisini değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu çalışma, tanımlayıcı, kesitsel ve ilişki arayıcı bir araştırma tasarımıyla yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemini, Ocak-Mart 2024 tarihleri arasında Türkiye’nin güneyinde yer alan bir il merkezindeki devlet lisesinde öğrenim gören, 14-16 yaş aralığındaki 250 ergen oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılar, basit rastgele örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenmiş ve veri toplama süreci yüz yüze anket uygulamasıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler, Birey Tanıtım Formu, Çocuklar İçin Öz-Yeterlik Ölçeği, Çocuk ve Genç Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği ve Çocuk ve Ergen Mükemmeliyetçilik Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmış ve SPSS programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiler, Pearson korelasyon ve basit doğrusal regresyon analizleri ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Analiz sonuçları, katılımcıların öz-yeterlilik algısı seviyelerinin orta düzeyde (61.26 ± 12.48), psikolojik sağlamlık seviyelerinin ortalamanın üzerinde (44.36 ± 7.52) ve mükemmeliyetçilik seviyelerinin ise ortanın üzerinde olduğunu göstermektedir (61.48 ± 11.02). Ergenlerin öz-yeterlik düzeyleri ile psikolojik sağlamlıkları arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir (r = 0.536, p < 0.001). Regresyon analizi sonuçları, öz-yeterliğin psikolojik sağlamlık üzerinde anlamlı ve pozitif bir etkiye sahip olduğunu göstermiştir (R² = 0.288, p < 0.001). Ancak, öz-yeterlik ile mükemmeliyetçilik arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olmadığı (r = 0.023, p = 0.716) ve öz-yeterliğin mükemmeliyetçilik üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisinin bulunmadığı belirlenmiştir (R² = 0.001, p = 0.716). Sonuç: Bu çalışma, ergenlerde öz-yeterliğin psikolojik sağlamlık ile güçlü ve pozitif bir ilişkiye sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Öz-yeterliğin psikolojik sağlamlık üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi bulunurken, mükemmeliyetçilik ile anlamlı bir ilişkiye sahip olmadığı saptanmıştır.
