In this study, cadmium-hexagonal boron nitride (Cd-h-BN) were synthesized according to the O’Connor method with varying amounts of
cadmium(II) nitrate. The structural characterizations were performed
with FTIR, XRD, and SEM techniques
while the cadmium contents in Cd-h-BN were determined by AAS. XRD results
shown that an increase
in interlayer distance of h-BN, and nano-scale products were observed at 1050°C. The lattice constants
were calculated by Scherrer equation and results were very close to the original h-BN. Although different amounts of
Cd(NO3)2·5H2O were added in the starting mixtures,
the cadmium contents of Cd-h-BN samples showed no significant difference and
few amounts of cadmium was intercalated to h-BN. In addition, increasing
cadmium amount caused to minor grain growth of h-BN samples.
