Abstract

Oral mucosal conditions of Subjects living in nursing home

Objective: The objectives of this study were to obtain information about oral mucosal conditions among elderly patients and to investigate the relationship between the findings in relation to age and sex. Material and Methods: The information regarding oral mucosal conditions was obtained from interviews of 42 patients. Results: The incidence of oral mucosal conditions was 92,9%. The incidence of oral mucosal conditions indicated a significant increase with advancing age. Varices (n:15), fissured tongue (n:13) and
atrophic tongue papillae (n:13) were the three most common conditions; and the incidence increased withage. Conclusion: The current results support those of other investigators in that the presence of oral mucosal conditions in elderly population is related to age and sex.
Key words: Elderly, oral mucosal condition, prevalence
