Abstract

ABSTRACT
The polychromatic nature of teeth has prompted manufacturers to develop composite resins with a range of shades and translucency/opacity levels to closely resemble the appearance of natural teeth. These composite resins are typically employed in a layering technique, necessitating considerable technical precision. Furthermore, the existence of numerous enamel and dentin hues, coupled with the necessity of meticulously blending these shades to attain an aesthetically pleasing result, renders the process of color selection and color harmony particularly challenging. This process becomes even more complex in the context of aesthetic restorations. In response to these challenges, manufacturers have developed monochromatic one-shade or single-shade universal composite resins, asserting that monochromatic materials can replicate all 16 shades represented in the VITA Classic scale. Although single-shade universal composite resins initially simplify the complexity of color selection, they reduce technical precision and simplify the difficulties arising from the layering technique. Consequently, the time required for the patient's treatment is reduced, and the treatment process is facilitated. This review examines the physical properties and advantages/disadvantages of single-color universal composite resins.
