Pedodonti Lisansüstü Eğitimine COVID-19 Pandemisinin Etkileri: Bir Anket Çalışması

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Covid-19 pandemisinin pedodontide lisansüstü eğitime etkilerinin araştırılması, öğrencilerin çevrimiçi dersler hakkındaki görüşlerinin, farkındalıklarının ve önerilerinin sorgulanmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu anket çalışması, Türkiye’deki Diş Hekimliği Fakültelerinin Pedodonti Bölümlerinde lisansüstü eğitim (doktora ve uzmanlık eğitimi) gören 154 öğrenci üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Lisansüstü öğrenciler için anket değişkenleri, öğrencilerin kendilerine ve kendi şartlarına ait faktörler, online teorik ve klinik eğitim ile ilgili faktörler, fakültede devam eden klinik işleyişler ile ilişkili faktörler, eğitmenler ile ilişkili faktörler, kurumun idari tutumuna ait faktörler, devam eden tez çalışmaları/araştırmalar ile ilişkili faktörler ve öneriler gibi alt başlıklarını içermektedir. Anket değişkenleri, Likert ölçeği ile sunulmuş ve sonuçlar % değerleri cinsinden kaydedilmiştir. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %63,4’ü çevrimiçi eğitime uyum sağlayabildiğini, ancak %22,7’si bilgisayar/ekipman imkanlarının yeterli olmadığını belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin %64,6’sı klinik gelişimin sadece yüzyüze derslerde olabileceğini belirtmiştir. Ek olarak, öğrencilerin %74,9’u pandemi ve filyasyon görevlendirmesinin tez sürecini olumsuz etkilediğini belirtmiştir. Lisansüstü öğrencilerin birçoğu, klinik derslerde görsel vaka sunumlarının yapılması gerektiğini (%90,3), filyasyon görevlendirmelerinde (%83,7) ve eğitim puanlarında (%77,7) düzenlemeler yapılması gerektiğini önermiştir. Sonuç: Covid-19 pandemisinin ve filyasyon görevlendirmelerinin, özellikle klinik eğitimleri ve tez sürecini olumsuz etkilediği sonucuna varılabilir. Klinik eğitimin iyileştirilmesi adına, interaktif/görsel öğelere yer verilmesinin, filyasyon görevlendirmelerinin ve pandemide kaybedilen sürecin yeniden düzenlenmesinin faydalı olacağını söylemek mümkündür.

Effects of Covid-19 Pandemic on Postgraduate Education in Pediatric Dentistry: A Survey Study

Abstract

Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of Covid-19 pandemic on postgraduate education in pediatric dentistry, and to question students' opinions, awareness and recommendations regarding online courses. Methods: This survey study was conducted on 154 students who attending postgraduate education (doctoral and specialty education) in Pediatric Dentistry departments in the Faculties of Dentistry in Turkey. Survey variables for postgraduate students include such as students’ own attitudes and own conditions, online theoretical and clinical education, clinical continuing process in the faculty, factors related instructors, administrative attitude of the institution, ongoing thesis/researches and recommendations. Survey variables were presented with Likert scale and the results were recorded as % values. Results: 63.4% of the students stated that they could adapt to online education, however 22.7% of them stated that their computer/equipment facilities were not sufficient. 64.6% of the students stated clinical development can only be in face-to-face courses. Additionally, 74.9% of the students stated that pandemic and filiation negatively affected thesis process. Most of the postgraduate students suggested that visual case presentations should be carried out in clinical courses (90.3%), and revisions should be made in the filiation assignments (83.7%) and education points (77.7%). Conclusion: It can be concluded that Covid-19 pandemic and filiation assignments negatively affect clinical training and thesis process. In order to improve clinical education, it is possible to say that it will be beneficial to include interactive/visual components and rearrange filiation assignments and the periods lost in the pandemic.
