Carriage of Group A Beta-Hemolytic Streptococci in Preschool Centres

Abstract

Group A Beta hemolytic streptococci (GABHS) are gram positive bacteria that can easily be transmitted among humans that are their natural source and that are frequently isolated as the causative organism of pharyngitis. GABHS are responsible of most of the sore throat related to streptococci, and they colonize commonly in the pharynxes of the asymptomatic individuals. This study was performed with the purpose of determining the prevalence of GABHS, which causes upper respiratory tract infections among children between 4-6 years of age in Afyonkarahisar province. In the study, pharynx samples for culture were collected from 1134 children (607 boys, 527 girls) in total 43 schools in the city center of Afyonkarahisar province. GABHS were found that prevalence among the students in pre-school educational institutions was 7.1% in total, 13% in those have sleeping problems at night, and 7.9% in children of 6 years of age. In the study, the prevalence of various respiratory tract infections leading to the identification of AGBHS concluded that epidemiology would benefit.

Okul Öncesi Bakımevlerinde A Grubu Beta Hemolitik Streptokok Taşıyıcılığı

Abstract

A grubu Beta hemolitik streptokoklar (AGBHS) doğal kaynağı olan insanlar arasında solunum yoluyla geçebilen, sıklıkla farenjit etkeni olarak izole edilen, gram pozitif bakterilerdir. AGBHS'lar genellikle asemptomatik kişilerin farenkslerinde kolonize olup bogaz ağrısı ile seyreden infeksiyonların çoğundan sorumludur. Bu çalışma; Afyonkarahisar ili okul öncesi bakımevlerindeki 4-6 yaş grubu çocuklarda üst solunum yolu infeksiyonlarına sebep olan AGBHS yaygınlığını saptamak amacı ile yapılmıştır.Çalışmada, Afyonkarahisar il merkezindeki toplam 43 okulda 1134 öğrenciden (607'si erkek, 527'si kız) boğaz kültür örnekleri alınmıştır. İncelenen öğrenciler arasında AGBHS sıklığının genelde %7,1, gece uyku problemi yaşayanlarda %13 ve 6 yaşındaki çocuklarda oranın %7,9 olduğu saptanmıştır. Araştırmada, çeşitli solunum yolu infeksiyonlarına neden olan AGBHS'ların yaygınlığının belirlenmesinin epidemiyolojik açıdan yarar sağlayacağı sonucuna varılmıştır.
