A Case of Pyogenic Liver Abscess Caused by Candida Globosa

Abstract

 Pyogenic liver abscess is a rare disease which may develop due to bacterial or fungal agents. With appropriate antibiotics and drainage, mortality can be significantly reduced. In this article, we present a case who complaints with fever, right side pain, lack of appetite, nausea, detected subhepatic liver abscess in radiological imaging, applied percutaneous abscess drainage and Candida globosa growth in abscess culture, and recovered after caspofungin treatment. Although bacterial agents are frequently isolated in liver abscesses, fungal agents can be seen as an infectious agent.

Candida Globosa’nın Etken Olduğu Bir Piyojenik Karaciğer Apsesi Olgusu

Abstract

Piyojenik karaciğer apsesi bakteriyel veya fungal etkenlere bağlı gelişebilen, nadiren görülen bir hastalıktır. Uygun antibiyotik ve drenaj ile mortalitesi önemli ölçüde azaltılabilir. Bu yazıda ateş, sağ yan ağrısı, iştahsızlık, bulantı şikayetleriyle başvuran, radyolojik görüntülemelerde subhepatik karaciğer apsesi saptanıp perkütan apse drenajı uygulanan ve apse kültüründe Candida globosa üreyen, kaspofungin tedavisi sonrası kliniği düzelen bir olgu sunuldu. Karaciğer apselerinde bakteriyel ajanlar sıklıkla izole edilmekle beraber fungal ajanlar da enfeksiyon etkeni olarak karşımıza çıkabilmektedir.
