Adaptation of the TPACK-21 Scale to Turkish: A Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

This study aims to adapt the TPACK-21 (Valtonen et al., 2017) scale to Turkish. Based on the 21st century skills, this scale consists of 6-point Likert type items. Measuring the technological pedagogical content knowledge that teachers should have in order to integrate 21st century skills into their classroom settings will give an idea about whether they have the competencies recommended by the Ministry of National Education (2017). For the adaptation process, necessary steps were followed carefully by the researchers; permission, translation, pilot study, validity and reliability processes. The data were collected from 309 science and mathematics teachers in Turkey. For psychometric analysis of the scale, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), item-total correlations for upper and lower groups according to 27% segment, and Cronbach's alpha reliability analysis were performed. According to the results, the adapted version of the scale was found as 6-factors and 37 items. Since the fit indices of CFA were found as acceptable values and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was found as .97, the scale is valid and reliable. In addition, descriptive analysis was conducted according to demographic information.

TPACK-21 Ölçeğinin Türkçe’ye Adaptasyonu: Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması

Öz

Bu çalışmada Valtonen ve diğerleri (2017) tarafından geliştirilen TPACK-21 ölçeğini Türkçeye uyarlamak amaçlanmıştır. Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı’nın (2017) da son yıllarda özellikle vurguladığı 21. yüzyıl becerilerine (eleştirel düşünme, yaratıcı düşünme, problem çözme, bilgi ve iletişim teknolojileri vb.) dayanan 6’lı Likert tipindeki bu ölçek ile, öğretmenlerin bu beceriler ışığında sınıf içi uygulamarını destekleyecek teknolojik pedagojik alan bilgisi ölçülebilir. Adaptasyon sürecinde, ölçeğin sahiplerinin rızası alınmasının ardından, her iki dili de konuşabilen akademisyenlerin desteği ile adaptasyon sürecinin çeviri ve uzman görüşü aşamaları tamamlanmıştır. Hazırlanan ölçek Türkiye’de 309 fen ve matematik öğretmenine uygulanıp, veriler kaydedilmiştir. Ölçeğin psikometrik özelliklerin test edilmesi için doğrulayıcı faktör analizi (DFA), %27’lik dilimlerden oluşan alt ve üst gruplar için madde toplam korelasyonları ve Cronbach alfa güvenirlik analizi yapılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda uyarlanan ölçek 6 faktörden ve 37 maddeden oluşmaktadır. Kabul edilebilir uyum indekslerine ve .97 olan Cronbach alfa katsayısına göre ölçeğin geçerli ve güvenilir olduğu ve Türkiye’deki öğretmenlere uygun olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ek olarak, öğretmenlerin belirli demografik özelliklerine göre betimsel analiz yapılmıştır.
