The Relationship Between Career Locus of Control and Career Anxiety in High School Students’ Career Choice
Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between high school students’ career locus of control and career anxiety in the context of career choice. In line with this objective, the study examines the relationship of career locus of control and career anxiety with various demographic variables (gender, type of school, grade level, field preferences, parental education level, and economic status), the relationship between career locus of control and career anxiety, and the predictive power of career locus of control on career anxiety. The study group consists of a total of 452 students, including 106 males (32.4%) and 306 females (67.6%), who are enrolled in various high schools in the central districts of Konya. The data collection tools used in the study are the “Career Anxiety Scale” developed by Çetin-Gündüz and Nalbantoğlu-Yılmaz (2016), the “Career Locus of Control Scale” adapted into Turkish by Siyez (2015), and the “Personal Information Form” prepared by the researchers. In the analysis of the data, parametric statistical techniques such as t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey test, correlation, and regression analysis were used. According to the research findings, a significant relationship was found between career anxiety regarding career choice and all sub-dimensions of career locus of control.
