Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of renewable energy consumption on carbon emissions in Türkiye over the period 1990-2023. The analysis using the Extended Autoregressive Distributed Lag (A-ARDL) model reveals a long-term cointegration relationship between the variables. Renewable energy consumption, as an important determinant in the short term, has shown significant effects in the direction of reducing emissions. Although the effect of economic growth on CO₂ emissions is positive, it is not statistically significant. Exchange rate, on the other hand, did not show a significant effect in the long term while its effect on reducing emissions in the short term was significant. The findings suggest that increasing the use of renewable energy will both limit environmental damage and support sustainable development in the long term.
