Feed Using and Feeding Practices in Beef Cattle Farms in Diyarbakir Province

Abstract

This research was carried out in order to determine feding – managing practises, feed kinds and their qualities at the beef cattle breeding farms in Diyarbakır province. In the study,  total 60 beef cattle farms were visited in Bağlar, Sur and Yenişehir towns of Diyarbakır. A survey was applied in each farm by face to face interview with the farms ownerships and feed samples were collected in order to get nutrition analysis in the animal nutrition laboratory. According to survey results; bought concentrated feed and roughage leves were determined as 91 % and 88 % respectively in the farms. Used roughage sources were determined as wheat straw, corn silage, and dryed hay as follows: 90 %, 6 % and 4 % respectively. Additionally, most of the farms were used some mixtures of beef cattle concentrate feed and grounded barley as 88 %. At the end of the study, roughage sources that used at the farms in Diyarbakır province were found poor quality and feeding practises were found insufficient to meeting of the nutrient requirements of the beef cattles.
