Bio

Dr. Erik Jon Byker is a Full Professor in the Cato College of Education and the Honors College at the University on North Carolina at Charlotte. He is the co-Executive Director of the Global-ready Research and Equitable Education in Teaching (GREET) Center. He is also the founder of the TEDxCraverRoad Countdown, which is an annual TEDx event focused on taking action on the Sustainable Development Goals. Over the 2019-20 academic year, Erik was the Resident Director of International Studies at Kingston University in London, UK. Erik teaches courses in global education, instructional design, studies methods and the Sustainable Development Goals. Erik has a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy from Michigan State University and holds a M.Ed. Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia. Erik's research is international and comparative in scope as he has conducted ethnographic field studies in England, Cuba, India, South Korea, and across the United States on how students and teachers use and construct meaning for computer technology.
