Abstract

Objective: Physical inactivity and poor sleep quality are common among university students. This study was conducted to evaluate the physical activity and sleep quality of university students and to determine their relationship with diet quality and night eating syndrome. Method: The study was conducted with the participation of 100 students with a mean age of 20.9±1.9 years studying in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. A questionnaire containing a total of 28 questions was applied to the students. Body mass index values were calculated using the height and body weight values of the individuals participating in the study. The questionnaire included "International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form", "Food Consumption Frequency Questionnaire", "Food Consumption Record", "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Night Eating Questionnaire" and "Diet Quality Index-International". Results: It was observed that 69.0% of the students were minimally active, 49.0% had poor sleep quality, 6.0% had night eating syndrome, and 55.0% had poor diet quality. It was determined that the frequency of consumption of energy drinks, cola, soda, etc. and fruit consumption may decrease sleep quality. There was a positive correlation between the frequency of consumption of energy drinks, cola, soda, instant fruit juice, dairy desserts, pastry desserts, margarine, chips and french fries and night eating syndrome. There was an opposite relationship between sleep quality, physical activity and night eating. There was a positive correlation between night eating and body mass index. It was determined that food consumption frequency, physical activity and night eating affected sleep quality by 57.4%. No relationship was found between diet quality and sleep quality. Conclusion: It is important to avoid consumption of foods that reduce sleep quality and to increase physical activity at reasonable levels in order to eliminate poor sleep quality, which is common among university students.

Beslenme Ve Diyetetik Bölümü Öğrencilerinde Uyku Kalitesi, Fiziksel Aktivite, Diyet Kalitesi, Gece Yeme Alışkanlığı Ve Beden Kütle İndeksi İlişkisinin Değerlendirilmesine Yönelik Kesitsel Bir Çalışma
