Research Articles

"Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences" is an international academic and peer-reviewed online journal that started its publication in Turkish and English in 2019. It has a group of Editors consisting of faculty members from different universities in Turkey and abroad.

"Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences" aims to be a journal that contributes to science by evaluating the studies of academicians, graduate students, and researchers, sharing academic knowledge and experiences, developing interdisciplinary studies, and enabling different perspectives to be revealed.


To publish research articles, reviews, technical notes, and letters to the scientific editor containing analytical and numerical solutions on original experimental and theoretical advances in SCIENCE and ENGINEERING in Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

The journal is published twice a year, in December and June. Submissions for publication must not have been published elsewhere or sent for publication. The articles requested to be published in the journal should be prepared following the KMUJENS publication policy and spelling rules and delivered to the editorial group.

Candidate articles submitted to the journal should not have been published elsewhere or sent for publication. All publication rights of the articles accepted for publication belong to The KMU Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences. In writing the candidate article sent to the KMU Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the expression should be as simple, understandable, short, and concise as possible. Statements containing judgment or certainty must be based on data/references. 3rd person singular narration should be used in article writing. The latest Spelling Guide published by the Turkish Language Association should be taken as a guide during the writing process. The candidate article can be written in Turkish or English.

The candidate article submitted to the KMU Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences is first formally examined by the Editor and/or Assistant Editors regarding publication policy and rules. The unsuitable candidate is sent back to the author(s) for the necessary corrections before proceeding to the article evaluation stage.

The candidate article deemed suitable for evaluation is sent to at least two (2) referees from the relevant field. If there is a difference of opinion among the referees about the evaluated candidate article, the candidate article is sent to a third referee. If the candidate's article is sent to more than two referees, the majority's opinion is taken as basis. If necessary, the studies are sent back to the author(s) for correction in line with the criticism and suggestions from the referees.

Candidate articles corrected by the author(s) are reviewed by the relevant referee(s) and the editor and accepted for publication if deemed appropriate.



KMUJENS
ETHICAL RULES AND PUBLISHING PRINCIPLES


Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences (KMUJENS) has adopted the development and distribution of information impartially and respectfully. It expects authors, readers, researchers, publishers, referees, and editors to comply with ethical rules during the publication process. According to the open access guidelines published by the Higher Education Institutions (YÖK) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), these stakeholders should pay attention to the standard, general, and special ethical rules and responsibilities shared below.

1. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND GENERAL ACTIONS OPERATING AGAINST PUBLICATION ETHICS

a) Plagiarism: Presenting the ideas, methods, data, practices, writings, figures, or works of others as their work, in whole or in part, without attribution following the rules of scientific ethics,
b) Forgery: To produce data that is not based on research, to edit or change the presented or published work based on untrue data, to report or publish them, to show research that has not been done as if it has been done,
c) Distortion: Falsifying research records and data obtained, showing methods, devices, and materials not used in the research as if they were used, not evaluating data that are not suitable for the research hypothesis, manipulating data or results to fit the relevant theories or assumptions, falsifying or shaping the research results in line with the interests of the people and organizations supported,
d) Duplicate Publication: To present more than one work containing the same results of research as separate works in associate professorship exam evaluations and academic promotions,
e) Slicing: Presenting the results of research as separate works in specific exam evaluations and academic incentives and promotions by dividing the results of research into pieces inappropriately in a way that disrupts the integrity of the research and by making a large number of publications without referring to each other,
f) Unfair Authorship: Adding people who do not have an active contribution to the authors of the article, not including people with active contributions among the authors, changing the order of the authors in an unjustified and inappropriate manner, removing the names of those who contributed actively from the work during publication or in subsequent editions, using their influence to include their names among the authors even though they do not have an active contribution,
g) Other Types of Ethical Violations: Failing to clearly state the supporting persons, institutions, or organizations and their contributions to the research in the publications of the supported research, not complying with ethical rules in research on humans and animals, not respecting patient rights in their publications, sharing the information contained in a work that they have been assigned to review as a referee with others before publication, resources provided or allocated for scientific research, misuse of spaces, facilities, and devices, making accusations of completely unfounded, unwarranted and deliberate ethical violations (YÖK Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive).

2. STAKEHOLDERS 'RESPONSIBILITIES

a) Responsibilities of Editors

Based on the principles of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the editor and assistant editors of KMUJENS will provide the following ethical duties and responsibilities:

- Editors are responsible for every publication published in KMUJENS.
- Editors have the responsibility and authority to accept or reject articles. It has to use this responsibility and authority in place and on time.
- Editors should not have a conflict of interest regarding the articles they accept or reject.
- Editors should accept original articles that will contribute to the field.
- Editors should reject incomplete and erroneous research that does not comply with the journal policy, publication rules, and level without any influence.
- Editors should allow incorrect, incomplete, and problematic articles to be withdrawn before or after the referee report or to be published after correction.
- Editors ensure that articles evaluated by at least two referees are evaluated according to the double-blind peer-review system and keep the referees confidential.
- Editors continue business processes without compromising intellectual property rights and ethical standards.
- Editors take responsibility for the plagiarism status of the articles and whether they are unpublished, original research through the "Turnitin, ithenticate or intihal.net " plagiarism program.
- Editors consider the knowledge, skills, and experience required by all readers, researchers, and practitioners.
- Editors take care that the published issues contribute to the reader, researcher, practitioner and scientific field and are original.
- Editors ensure that all advisory committee members advance processes following publication policies and guidelines.
- Editors inform the members of the advisory board about their publication policies.
- Editors ensure that advisory board members independently evaluate their work.
- Editors can contribute to new advisory board members and make decisions as appropriate.
- Editors should submit studies suitable for the expertise of the advisory board members for evaluation.
- Editors interact with the advisory board regularly.
- The relationship between the editors (Editor and Associate Editors) and the publisher is based on the principle of editorial independence. According to the written agreement between the editors and the publisher, all the editors' decisions are independent of the publisher and the journal owner.
- Editors and Associate Editors may not print more than four (4) publications in KMUJENS.

b) Authors' Responsibilities

- The work submitted by the author(s) is expected to be original. If the author(s) benefit from or use other studies, they must cite and/or cite completely and accurately.
- People who do not contribute intellectually to the content in the creation of the study should not be specified as authors.
- All studies submitted for publication should be disclosed, if any, and their relationships that may constitute a conflict of interest.
- Raw data regarding their articles may be requested from the author(s) within the framework of the evaluation processes. In such a case, the author(s) should be ready to present the expected data and information to the editorial board and scientific committee.
- The author(s) must have a document showing that they have the rights to use the data used, the necessary permissions for the research/analysis, or the consent of the experimental subjects.
- If the author(s) notices a mistake or error in their published, early appearance or evaluation work, they must cooperate with the editor in informing, correcting, or withdrawing the journal editor or publisher.
- Authors cannot simultaneously have their work in the application process of more than one journal. Each application can be initiated following the completion of the previous application. A study published in another journal cannot be sent to us.
- It cannot be proposed to change the author's responsibilities of a study whose evaluation process has started (such as adding an author, changing the order of the author, or removing the author).

c) Responsibilities of Arbitrators
The management of our journal is committed to the successful execution and improvement of the peer-review process within the framework of ethical publishing rules. It welcomes the stakeholders and readers of the research to report plagiarism, duplicate publications, inaccuracies, suspicious content, or situations they see in the reviews published in the Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences to fbeditor@kmu.edu.tr e-mail address. It notifies the relevant parties of the data and results obtained on the subject and follows up. It is based on the referees' compliance with the following principles.

- Evaluations should be made impartially.
- There should be no conflict of interest between the article's referees and stakeholders subject to evaluation.
- It should be pointed out that other articles, works, sources, citations, rules, and similar deficiencies related to the article should be completed.
- Articles that have been evaluated based on the double-blind peer-review system or their referees are not disclosed.

3. PLAGIARISM POLICY
As of 15 December 2023, Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences (KMUJENS) has started to check the studies submitted for publication through plagiarism programs (Turnitin, iThenticate or İntihal.net). Studies with a more than 25% plagiarism rate are not evaluated and returned to the author. If it is determined that a study published in the journal is plagiarized, the Editorial Board withdraws the article and initiates the necessary actions.

4. PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA
Editors protect personal data related to the subjects or images of the evaluated study. Contributors to the journal (editors, authors, and referees) are given documents showing their contributions upon request.

5. ETHICAL COMMITTEE, HUMAN AND ANIMAL RIGHTS
Editors ensure that human and animal rights are protected in the evaluated studies. Editors are responsible for rejecting the study when there is no approval from the ethics committee on the subjects used in the study and no permission for experimental research. In studies requiring ethics committee approval, information about the permission (name of the committee, date and number) should be included in the method section and on the article's first/last page. In case reports, it is necessary to include information about signing the informed consent/consent form in the article.

6. POSSIBLE ABUSE AND ABUSE MEASURES
Editors take precautions against possible abuse and abuse behavior. In addition to conducting a rigorous and objective investigation into the detection and evaluation of complaints related to this situation, the responsibilities of the editor share the relevant findings with the competent authorities.

7. PROVIDING ACADEMIC PUBLISHING INTEGRITY
Editors ensure that decisions containing errors, inconsistencies, or misleading in the works are corrected quickly.

8. PROTECTION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
Editors are obliged to protect the intellectual property rights of all published articles to defend the rights of the journal and authors in case of possible violations and to take the necessary measures to ensure that the content of all published articles does not violate the intellectual property rights of other publications.

9. CONFIGURATION AND OPEN DISCUSSION
Editors take into account the criticisms to be made against the works published in the journal and take a constructive attitude towards these criticisms in line with the purpose and scope of the journal. Criticized authors have the right to reply. Studies with negative results are rejected.

10. COMPLAINTS
Editors must carefully review complaints and respond to authors, referees, or readers in an enlightening and explanatory manner.

11. POLITICAL AND COMMERCIAL CONCERNS
The owner, publisher, and no other political or commercial elements can influence the independent decisions of the editors.

12. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
Editors guarantee and assure authors and reviewers that the journal's publication process will be carried out independently and impartially.


KMUJENS
PUBLICATION POLICY and PUBLICATION PROCESS


1- Journal Section Policies:

2- Open Access Policy:
Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences (KMUJENS) provides open access for the continuous and free use of its content to produce beneficial results for humanity by increasing the global exchange of information. In this context, all articles published in the journal are open to access from https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/mdfbe/archive addresses. Articles published in KMUJENS are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC). Commercial use of the content is prohibited. Articles in the journal can be used as long as the author and the original source are cited.

3- Pricing Policy:
Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences (KMUJENS) does not charge any fee at any stage of the articles, including submission, evaluation, and publication. Authors do not pay article processing fees for the studies they submit to the journal.

4- Article Evaluation Process:
Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences (KMUJENS) is published as an e-journal two times a year, in June and December. All the articles are published collectively in an issue with its table of contents.

a) Articles are written using KMUJENS spelling rules and uploaded to the journal system by the corresponding author.
b) The received article is delivered to the editor by KMUJENS assistant editors after the figure review (2-5 days).
c) The article reviewed by the editor and deemed appropriate is forwarded to the relevant referees according to its subject (5-10 days).
d) The article deemed suitable for evaluation is sent to at least two (2) referees from the relevant field. If there is a difference of opinion among the referees about the evaluated article, the article is sent to a third referee. If the article is sent to more than two referees, the majority's opinion is taken as basis.
e) According to the referee reports, the authors are informed (within 1 month at the latest).
f) The articles for which correction is requested must be corrected and returned in accordance with the reports within 1 month at the latest.
g) If two referees accept, the article is published in the following issue.
h) The publication decision process is concluded between 1 and 2 months after submitting an article to KMUJENS.

Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences does not charge any fee from the author/authors at any stage (submission, evaluation and publication) of publication processes.

The articles in KMUJENS are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. Commercial use of the content is prohibited. Articles in the journal can be used as long as the author and original source are cited.
