Year 2023, Volume: 17 Issue: 1, 6 - 9, 31.03.2023
https://doi.org/10.21763/tjfmpc.1256896

Abstract

The Invisible Devastation of Earthquakes: Their Effects on People's Psychological Health

Year 2023, Volume: 17 Issue: 1, 6 - 9, 31.03.2023
https://doi.org/10.21763/tjfmpc.1256896

Abstract

This article discusses the impact of earthquakes on people's psychological well-being. The consequences of being trapped under debris, experiencing loss, and becoming homeless have profound effects on individuals. Additionally, it is noted that the destruction of the earthquake's safe areas and the shaking of the sense of security in society can make it difficult for people to access accurate information. Therefore, the importance of reliable information provided by the government is emphasized. The article also warns that earthquakes can not only affect those directly affected but also those who witness the events, causing post-traumatic stress symptoms. In conclusion, it is emphasized that awareness of the psychological effects of earthquakes on individuals and societies is necessary, and effective interventions should be provided.
