The Usak University Journal of Educational Research is an open access, free of charge, double-blind peer-reviewed, international scientific journal published online in the field of Educational Sciences and Teacher Education. The journal, which has been published three times a year (April, August, and December) since 2015, publishes articles written in Turkish or English. Adopting a scientific research-oriented approach, the journal aims to produce original scientific ideas and thoughts, identify problems, and develop solution suggestions in the fields of Educational Sciences and Teacher Education.

The Usak University Journal of Educational Research takes into consideration original articles that investigate problems and offer solutions in the field of educational sciences at the preschool, primary school, secondary school, high school, university, graduate, and adult education levels. The journal's focus areas are:

Manuscripts submitted to the Usak University Journal of Educational Research should adhere to the journal's writing guidelines detailed below and the Manuscript Writing Template. Prior to review, all manuscripts receive preliminary evaluation for both their format and content. Manuscripts that do not comply with the article writing template are not considered for review.

General Rules
  1. The submitted work should not have been previously published or submitted to another journal for evaluation.
  2. The manuscript submitted to the journal should adhere to the journal's "Manuscript Writing Template" and include the "Author Declaration Form," "Plagiarism Report," and "Ethics Committee Approval Document" for studies requiring such approval. 
  3. The plagiarism result report (similarity report) for the uploaded article should be below 20% excluding references. Any articles with a high similarity rate will be returned to the author after editorial review.
  4. The manuscript should be written in "Calibri (Body)" font, 10 pt, justified, single-spaced without spaces, with page margins of 2.5 cm and not exceeding 30 pages.
  5. The manuscript should contain a Turkish and an English title, as well as Turkish and English abstracts that are between 150-200 words. Additionally, it should provide a maximum of five keywords, the main text, author statements, references, and appendices, if applicable.
  6. The author is responsible for proofreading their manuscript's language. Manuscripts that do not meet language validity requirements will not be published until language validity is ensured.
  7. The manuscript should include information on the Ethics Committee Permission Statement, Conflict of Interest Statement, Researcher Contribution Statement, Support, and Acknowledgment Statement (if applicable) at the end.
  8. Use the APA 6 reference style for the bibliography, some examples of which are provided below. You can find further guidance on complying with journal writing rules at this link.

Manuscript Writing Rules for Article Sections
Title of the Article
The article's title, in both Turkish and English, should be in 14-point bold font, left-justified with the first letter of each word capitalized, except conjunctions, on the first page of the article. The Turkish article title is not mandatory for authors whose native language is not Turkish.

Abstract and Keywords
The Turkish and English abstracts should clearly state the research objectives, methodology, findings, and major recommendations. Use Calibri body font size 9, single-spaced, and limit the abstract length to 150-200 words to fit on the first page of the article template. The Turkish article abstract is not mandatory for authors whose native language is not Turkish.

Keywords should contain a minimum of five words that reflect the study's integrity and should be written consistently under the "Keywords" headings. They should be in 9-point font, single-spaced, left-justified, and the first letter of each keyword should be capitalized.

Introduction (12 point, Left Justified, Bold font)
The article length should not exceed 30 pages, including appendices and a bibliography. The content of the article should be written in CALIBRI BODY font at 10 pt. The margins should be 2.5 cm, and the spacing between paragraphs should be 0 pt. before and 0 pt. after. Spacing before and after headings should be 6 pt. Line spacing in the text should be single paragraph spacing before and after 0 pt. The first paragraph after the title should be left justified, and the following paragraphs should be indented 1 cm on the first line. In the introduction section, the problem statement and justification of the research, the theoretical framework of the research and literature synthesis, the purpose of the research, and sub-problems should be included.

First Level Title
The first level title should be left justified, 12 pt. font size (6 pt. before and 6 pt. after), and the first letters of the words should be capitalized and bold.
Example: Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations, References

2nd Level Title

The second-level heading should be justified to the left side, bold, 10 pt, with 6 pt. spacing before and after. The first letter of every word should be capitalized, and the rest should be in lowercase letter.

Example: Purpose of the Research, Sub-Problems of the Research, Sampling, Data Collection Tools, Data Analysis, etc.

3rd level title
The third level subheading is left justified, italicized, 10 pt. font, 6 pt. spacing before and after, and the first word starts with a capital letter.
Example: Hypothesis

Method
Texts should be written in CALIBRI BODY font, and the spacing in subheadings should be 6 pt before and after. Line spacing in the text should be 0 pt before and after single paragraph spacing. The first paragraph after the title is left justified, and the following paragraphs are indented 1cm on the first line.
In the methodology section, the type and design of the research should be explained, and subheadings such as population and sample/study group, data collection tools, data collection and analysis, and experimental procedure/implementation process should be included.

In this section, it should be stated who the study group consists of and how it was selected, and if possible, demographic information about the participants should be presented in a table. Information about the characteristics, development, validity, and reliability of the data collection tool(s) used in the research should be given. The statistical techniques used in the analysis of the data, the purpose of their use, the significance levels used, and the stages of content analysis and thematic analysis should be detailed.

Information about the ethics committee's approval of the research (name of the committee, date, and number) should be stated on the last page of the article and should also be explained in the method section.

Findings
Findings should be written in CALIBRI BODY font and 10 pt. Spacing in subheadings should be 6 pt before and after. Line spacing in the text should be 0 pt before and after single paragraph spacing. The first paragraph after the title is left justified, and the following paragraphs are indented 1 cm on the first line. Tables and figures to be included in the Results section should be presented as follows:

Tables

The table should not exceed the page dimensions. The title and content of the table should be in Calibri body font, 10 pt, with the first word in upper case and the rest in lower case. The font can be reduced if needed. For the text within the table, it should be in 10-point size and should be set without spaces before and after the lines. Initial letters should be capitalized in table titles. Horizontal lines should be used in tables; abbreviations and footnote explanations should be given below the table.

When reporting results based on statistical techniques in the findings, abbreviations related to statistical test techniques should be italicized in the text and in the table (e.g., t, F, sd, r, p) and a period (such as 2.56; .05; .01) should be used instead of a comma when reporting decimal numerical results.

Example 1: Analysis of variance results showed that there was a significant difference in participants' perceptions in terms of frequency of use [F (1-3) = 5.43, p < .05].
Example 2: As a result of the independent samples t-test, no significant difference was found between the opinions of the participants in terms of gender [t (152) = .968, p > .05].

Figures

Figures should be centered on the page. The title and content of the figures should be in Calibri body font, 10 pt, the first word should start with a capital letter and the others should continue with lower case letters.

Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations
The findings and results obtained in the study should be discussed, interpreted and inferences should be made together with the results of national and international literature. This section can be given as "Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations" or it can be given in two sections as "Discussion" and "Conclusion and Recommendations". Research recommendations should be based on the results and inferences obtained from the research and recommendations for future studies should be presented taking into account the limitations of the research.

Acknowledgements
At the end of the article text, information about the Disclosure, Ethics Committee Permission Statement, Informed Consent Statement, Conflict of Interest Statement, Researcher Contribution Statement, Support and Acknowledgment Statement (if any) regarding the publication should be given. If the scientific study was produced from a thesis or presented at a congress/symposium, this information should be stated here.

Example 1: This study is based on the master's/doctoral thesis of the first/second/third author.
Example 2: This study was presented as an abstract at the XXX Conference.

Ethics Committee Permission Statement
"Ethics Committee Permission" is required for all kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from participants using survey, interview, focus group study, observation, experiment, interview techniques. It should be specified in the study whether ethics committee permission and/or legal/private permission is required. In studies that require Ethics Committee permission, information about the permission (name of the committee, date and number) should be clearly stated. If Ethics Committee permission is not required, this should also be declared and a statement that the Ethical Principles of Scientific Research and Publication are complied with should be included. In case presentations and studies involving participants, a statement that the informed consent form has been signed should be included.

Example 1: The Ethics Committee Approval of this study was approved by the decision of XXXXX University XXXXXXXX Ethics Committee (Date: XX/XX/20XX, Number: XXXX/XX). Informed voluntary consent statements of the participants in this study were obtained.
Example 2: In this study, Ethics Committee Permission was not required due to XXXX, and the ethical principles of scientific research and publication were followed in the research process.

Conflict of Interest Statement
Authors should declare whether they have any conflict of interest with any institution, organization or person(s) within the scope of the research. If not, it should also be indicated.
Example 1. The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.

Authors Contribution Statement
The contributions of the authors should be acknowledged.

Statement of Support and Acknowledgment
If there is any institution, organization or person(s) supporting the research, this support should be indicated.
Example 1. This research was supported by XXX institution with project number XXX.
Example 2. Thank you for XXXX's contribution to this research.

References
The bibliography references should be in alphabetical order on a separate page from the main text, without separating books, articles, etc. All references cited in the study text should be given in accordance with APA 6.0 writing style. Calibri body should be created using a 10-point font and aligned justified. Paragraph settings should be formatted as single line spacing and hanging indentation (1 cm). There should be 0.nk space before and after. In-text Citation:

In-text citations are made by giving the author's surname and year.
Example 1: In the research conducted by Baki (2020) ...
Example 2: According to Yıldırım and Şimşek (2016) ...

In references to studies with three or more authors in the text, the abbreviation "et al." is used after the surname of the first author.
Example 1: In reference to a study conducted by Birgin, Akar, and Uzun (2020), the citation should be presented as "Birgin et al. (2020)". The names of all authors should be included in the bibliography section.

If multiple works are cited either in parentheses in the text or at the end of a sentence, the references should be presented alphabetically.
Example 1: Many studies indicated that technology-supported instruction increased student achievement (Barkatsas et al., 2009; Baki et al., 2011; Chan & Leung, 2014; Li & Yang, 2015; Yılmaz, 2019).

If more than one work is cited in parentheses in the text or at the end of a sentence, the references should be given in alphabetical order.
Example 1: Many studies in the literature (Barkatsas et al., 2009; Baki et al., 2011; Chan & Leung, 2014; Li & Yang, 2015; Yılmaz, 2019) have found that technology-supported instruction increases student achievement.

In references to studies of institutions and organizations, the full name should be written first and the abbreviation should be used in subsequent references.
Example 1: The Turkish primary school mathematics curriculum was revised in 2018 (Ministry of National Education [MoNE], 2018). National exam results (MoNE, 2020) revealed that eighth grade students had low achievement in mathematics.

Extended Abstract (Only for articles written in Turkish)
It is not mandatory to submit a Turkish Extended Abstract for studies written in English. In studies written in Turkish, an extended English abstract of 750-1000 words should be submitted. The extended summary should start on a new page and be given under subheadings, including the "Introduction, Method, Findings, Discussion" sections.

The Usak University Journal of Educational Research is an international, open-access, free-of-charge, double-blinded peer-review, and academic journal that aims to encourage in-depth thinking and multidisciplinary research in the fields of educational sciences and teacher education. Publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is an essential requirement for the development of a coherent and respected knowledge network. Therefore, Usak University Journal of Educational Research editors, reviewers, and authors undertake to comply with the principles, standards, and recommendations of publication ethics determined by the ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) and the International Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Commitments of the Authors:

Originality and Fidelity of the Data:
The authors confirm that the work is original and unpublished, that it does not contain chapters or other work by other authors, and that the data are accurate. Authors of original research articles must provide an accurate and detailed description of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Fraudulent or intentionally false statements are unethical and unacceptable.

Multiple and/or Repetitive Publications:
The author should generally not submit articles describing essentially the same research to more than one journal or leading publication. Simultaneous submission of the same article to more than one journal is unethical and unacceptable. In general, an author should not submit for consideration an article that has previously been published in another journal.

Citations, Attributions, and References:
Authors should ensure that they write completely original works and, when using the work and/or words of others, that they cite them appropriately. Authors must provide accurate attribution of sources and contributions cited in the article, along with their DOI or URL, if available.

Authorship and Contributorship:
The authors ensure the involvement of individuals who have made significant scientific and intellectual contributions in the conceptualization and planning of the study, as well as in the analysis and writing of the results. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, implementation, or interpretation of the work. Authors should be ranked according to their level of responsibility and involvement. If there are others involved in specific aspects of the research project, they should be thanked or listed as contributors. The corresponding author must ensure that the manuscript includes all appropriate co-authors, that there are no inappropriate co-authors, and that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to submit it for publication.

Access and Storage of Data:
If the members of the Editorial Board deem it appropriate, the authors of the articles must make the sources or data on which the research is based available in such a way that they can be stored for a reasonable period of time after publication and possibly converted into another document.

Conflicts of Interest and Disclosure:
All authors must clearly state that they have no conflicts of interest that could affect the results obtained or the interpretations proposed. Authors should also disclose funding from the institutions and/or projects from which the research article originated.

Responsibility:
The authors are responsible for the content of the articles published in the journal. The authors also commit to reviewing the most recent and relevant scientific literature on the topic analyzed, taking into account different approaches.

Ethics Committee Approval and Informed Consent of Participants:
If the study involves the use of animal or human subjects, the author should ensure that the manuscript includes a statement that all procedures were performed in accordance with applicable laws and institutional policies and were approved by the appropriate institutional board(s). Authors agree to provide documentation of ethics committee approval of their studies. Authors must include a statement in the manuscript that informed consent was obtained for experiments involving human subjects. The privacy rights of human subjects must be carefully respected at all times.

Errors in Published Articles:
If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his or her article, the author must immediately notify the editors of the journal and provide them with all necessary information so that the appropriate corrections can be published under the same article. If the editor or publisher learns from a third party that a published work contains a material error, it is the author's responsibility to immediately retract or correct the manuscript or to provide evidence to the editor of the accuracy of the original manuscript.

Commitments of the Reviewers:

Contribution to the Editorial Decision:
Reviewers agree to provide and guarantee a critical, honest, constructive, and impartial review of manuscripts in their field of knowledge and skill, both in terms of scientific quality and the quality of the literature.

Respect for Review Deadlines:
A reviewer who does not feel competent in the subject matter being reviewed or who cannot complete the review in the time allotted must immediately notify the editors of the situation. Reviewers agree to review the paper as soon as possible in order to meet deadlines.

Confidentiality:
Each assigned manuscript must be considered a confidential document. Therefore, it should not be shared or discussed with others without the express permission of the editors.

Objectivity:
Peer review should be objective. Personal criticism of the author is not appropriate. Reviewers will clearly state their opinions with supporting evidence in accordance with the journal's review protocol.

Text Visualization:
The reviewers agree to indicate precisely the bibliographical references of fundamental works possibly forgotten by the author. The reviewer should also inform the editors of any similarity or overlap of the manuscript with other published work.

Blind Review:
To ensure that the review process is as objective, unbiased, and transparent as possible, the identities of the authors are masked before the paper is submitted for review. If the identity of the authors, their institutional affiliations, or any other information that would compromise the anonymity of the document is compromised, the reviewer must immediately notify the editors.

Conflicts of Interest and Disclosure:
Unpublished material described in a submitted manuscript should not be used in a reviewer's own research without the express written permission of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review should be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Reviewers should not evaluate manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest due to competition, partnership, or other relationships or affiliations with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the manuscript.


Publisher Commitment

Publication Decisions:
The editors will ensure the scientific selection of the most qualified reviewers and scientists to provide a critical and expert evaluation of the paper with the least possible bias. EARDE chooses to select two reviewers for each study to ensure greater objectivity in the review process. In cases of disagreement, a third reviewer will be selected in exceptional cases. The editor may be guided by the journal's editorial policy and is bound by applicable legal requirements in cases of libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

Honesty:
Editors will evaluate articles submitted for publication according to the scientific merit of their content, without regard to the race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political beliefs of the authors.

Confidentiality:
Editors and Editorial Board members agree not to disclose information about manuscripts submitted for publication to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and editors. Editors and Editorial Board members agree to maintain the confidentiality of articles, authors, and reviewers.

Conflicts of Interest and Disclosure:
Editors agree not to use the content of articles submitted for publication in their research without the written permission of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review should be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Editors must recuse themselves from manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest arising from competition, partnership, or other relationships or affiliations with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) entities associated with the manuscript. In other words, the editor should request that the co-editor, associate editors, or other members of the editorial board do the reviewing and evaluation on his behalf. Editors should ask all contributors to disclose any relevant conflicts of interest and to make corrections if conflicts of interest arise after publication. 

Respect for the Times:
To ensure rapid dissemination of results, editors have the primary responsibility for meeting the deadlines for review and publication of accepted articles. They are committed to meeting published deadlines.

Detection of Plagiarism and Ethical Violations:
Authors are responsible for submitting a plagiarism report for the work they submit to the journal. The degree of plagiarism must not exceed 18%. Papers without a plagiarism report will not be considered. In addition, if necessary, the studies submitted to the journal can be checked with different plagiarism software. In the event of an ethical complaint regarding a submitted or published article, the editor, together with the publisher, must take appropriate action. Such action will normally include contacting the author of the article and investigating the complaint or allegations. If an ethical violation is confirmed, a correction, retraction, statement of concern, or other notice regarding the study will be published. Every reported case of unethical publishing behavior is investigated, even if it is discovered years after publication.

The Usak University Journal of Educational Research is an open-access, free of charge, double-blinded peer-reviewed, and international academic journal published online.

The Usak University Journal of Educational Research accepts scientific, original research, and compilation studies in the field of educational sciences and teacher education, from pre-school to higher education, including postgraduate and adult education. The journal is published three times a year (April, August, and December) and publishes articles written in Turkish or English. Language control (proofreading) of articles submitted in English is the author's responsibility. Articles that are linguistically inadequate are not published until language validity is ensured.

The journal accepts original research and review studies that have not been previously published or sent to another journal for evaluation.

The journal editors, reviewers, and authors adopt the principles, standards, and recommendations regarding publication ethics determined by the ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) and the International Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Manuscripts sent to the journal are first reviewed in terms of journal writing rules, scope, and form. Manuscripts that do not fall within the scope of the journal, do not comply with the spelling rules, and are not prepared in accordance with the template are not taken into the evaluation process.

It is mandatory to submit information about the Ethics Committee Permission Statement, Informed Consent Statement, Conflict of Interest Statement, Researcher Contribution Statement, and Support and Acknowledgment Statement (if any) regarding the studies submitted to the journal. If the manuscript was produced from a thesis or presented at a congress or symposium, it should be stated in the study.

"Ethics Committee Permission" is required for all kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require collecting data from participants using survey, interview, focus group study, observation, experiment, and interview techniques. It is stated in the study whether ethics committee approval and/or legal or special permission are required.

The authors are obliged to sign the Author Declaration Form for the article. Copyright and publishing rights of the author(s) are reserved. The authors declare that if the article is accepted for publication in the journal, it will be licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

Authors are required to upload similarity reports for each study submitted to the journal using plagiarism scanning software (Turnitin, iThenticate, etc.). Studies with a similarity rate of less than 20%, excluding bibliography, are examined. Candidate articles with a high similarity rate are returned to the author after editorial control.

The journal is a free journal and does not charge authors any fees for any reason during the article submission phase, evaluation process and publication phase.

The journal management has the right to publish or not publish the submitted articles and to make corrections to the articles when deemed necessary. The legal responsibility of an article published in the journal belongs to its author, and the author is deemed to have accepted this issue by submitting an article to the journal.

The journal follows a double-anonymous peer review policy. During the scientific study review process, the journal takes great care to make sure that authors, editors, and reviewers do not have any conflicts of interest. Manuscripts that are suitable in terms of scope, content, and form are sent by the editors to at least two reviewers who are experts in their fields for scientific evaluation. In the manuscript sent to the journal, all information about the authors (author names and institutions, etc.) is kept confidential (blinded) and sent to the referees. A double-blinded peer-review system is used in the review of studies. The article, which receives two publishable reports as a result of reviewer evaluation, is published in an issue deemed appropriate by the journal management. If one of the reviewer reports is positive and the other is negative, the article is sent to a third reviewer. In this case, it is decided whether the article will be published or not according to the report of the third reviewer.

If a violation of ethical rules is detected in studies submitted to the journal, the study is returned to the author. If it is determined that there is a violation of ethical rules in an article previously published in the journal, necessary actions are taken in the form of correction, retraction, statement of concern, or publication of an information note regarding the study. Every reported act of unethical publishing behavior is investigated, even if discovered years after publication.

Publication Charge Policy

The Usak University Journal of Educational Research is a free-of-charge and open-access journal. No fee is requested from the authors for any reason during the article submission phase, evaluation period, and publication phase.

Plagiarism Policy

Authors are required to upload similarity reports for each study submitted to the journal using plagiarism scanning software (Turnitin, iThenticate, etc.). The similarity rate must be lower than 20%, excluding bibliography. Works without a plagiarism report are not taken into consideration. For studies with a high similarity rate after the editorial board plagiarism check, the responsible author is requested to correct the errors, and the study is returned to the author.
