Vasculitis Caused by Methimazole in an Adolescent Patient with Hashitoxicosis

Yıl 2018, Cilt: 12 Sayı: 1, 0 - 0, 01.04.2018

Öz

Methimazole therapy is the first-line treatment in children with hyperthyroidism in many countries. Treatment with methimazole may be accompanied by side effects. Common side effects include rash, pruritus, arthralgia, nausea, and reduced taste. Other serious side effects include the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, and vasculitis. Here, we report a 16-year-old girl with methimazole-induced vasculitis. The onset of vasculitis in our patient was one month after the initiation of methimazole therapy. The symptoms of vasculitis disappeared rapidly following cessation of treatment. Vasculitis is a serious side effect of methimazole and is an indication for prompt cessation of treatment
