Kappadokia Krallığı’nda “Diarşi” Deneyimi

Bu makale vasal statüdeki Kappadokia Krallığı’nın “ikili yönetim” yapısında olan diarşi (δύο βασιλείς) sisteminin krallığın kendi sosyo-politik dinamikleriyle uygulayabilme koşullarını ele almaktadır. MÖ III. yüzyıl itibarıyla Küçük Asya’da kurulan birçok krallık gibi Kappadokia Krallığı da diğer Hellenistik krallıklara benzer şekilde örgütlenmişti. Roma’nın Küçük Asya’daki egemenliği ile vasal konuma düşen Kappadokia gibi krallıklar, cliens olarak nitelendirilerek üst bir otoritenin himayesinde bağımlı hale gelmişti. Bu bilgiler doğrultusunda vasal bir krallık olan Kappadokia Krallığı’nda Orophernes ile V. Ariarathes’in iki krallı (δύο βασιλείς) yönetiminin işlevselliği ele alınacaktır. Makalede iki krallı (ἀρχαγέται) sistemi istikrarlı bir şekilde deneyimleyen Sparta Devleti temel alınacaktır. Bu doğrultuda diarşi yönetim şeklinin dayandığı sosyo-politik örgütlenme, kentleşme, mythos-tanrısal anlatı ve devlet kurumsallığı saptanarak Kappadokia Krallığı’ndaki toplumsal ve siyasi dinamiklerle karşılaştırılacaktır. İlaveten jeopolik açıdan Roma’nın diğer vasal müttefikleri olan Tarkondimotai ve Galatia krallıklarının kent-krallık koordinasyon yapıları da göz önünde bulundurularak diarşi yönetim fikriyatının Kappadokia Krallığı’ndaki pratik karşılığı ortaya çıkarılacaktır.

The Practice “Diarchy” in the Kingdom of Cappadocia

Öz

This article analyses the conditions for the implementation of the diarchy (δύο βασιλείς) system in a “dual ruling” structure of the vassal kingdom of Cappadocia, within it’s own socio-political dynamics. Like many other kingdoms established in Asia Minor, the Kingdom of Cappadocia was organised similarly to other Hellenistic kingdoms by the III century BC unwards. Kingdoms such as Cappadocia, which became vassals with the Roman rule in Asia Minor, were characterised as cliens and became dependent under the supreme authority. In the light of this information, the functionality of the two-king (δύο βασιλείς) rule of Orophernes and Ariarathes V in the Kingdom of Cappadocia, a vassal kingdom, will be discussed. The article will be based on the State of Sparta, which consistently experienced the two-king system (ἀρχαγέται). Accordingly, the socio-political organisation, urbanisation, mythos-divine narrative and state institutionalism on which the diarchy form of government was based will be identified and compared with the social and political dynamics in the Kingdom of Cappadocia. In addition, the city-kingdom coordination structures of Tarkondimotai and Galatia, the other vassal allies of Rome in geopolitical terms, will be taken into consideration and the practical equivalent of the idea of diarchy in the Kingdom of Cappadocia will be revealed.
