The relationship between the lipid profile with miyofacial pain syndrome

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: In this study,the relationship between serum lipid levels with the severity of pain and muscle spasms in patients with myofascial pain syndrome MPS were investigated.METHODS: Sixty-seven patients 57 female, 10 male with MPS were included in this study. The severity of pain which was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale VAS and the severity of muscle spasms which was evaluated by palpable muscle spasm degree scale PKSD and lipid levels of the patients were recorded.RESULTS: The average lipid levels Total cholesterol, TG, LDL-C in patients was above normal limits. The positive association between VAS withLDL-C levels and PKSD with total cholesterol and LDL-C levels was detected.CONCLUSION: As a result of this study,an association between serum lipid levels and MPS was found similarly some prior studies. It is concluded that the increase in serum lipid levels increases the severity of the pain and muscle spasms in patients with MPS. More extensive investigation on this subject are needed.

Miyofasial ağrı sendromu ile kan lipid düzeyleri arasındaki ilişki

Abstract

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada miyofasiyal ağrı sendromu MAS ile takip edilen hastalar da, ağrı ve kas spazmının şiddeti ile serum lipit düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin araştırılması amaçlandı.YÖNTEMLER: Çalışma da, MAS tanısı ile takip edilen 67 hasta 57 kadın, 10 erkek hastanın dosyaları retrospektif olarak tarandı. Visüel Analog Skala VAS ile değerlendirilmiş olan ağrı ve palpabl kas spazmı derecesi PKSD skalası ile değerlendirilmiş olan kas spazmı şiddetleri ile hastaların lipid düzeyleri kaydedildi ve aralarındaki korelasyona bakıldı.BULGULAR: Hastaların lipid düzeyleri Total kolesterol, TG, LDL-C ortalaması normal değer aralığının üstünde bulundu. VAS ile LDL-C düzeyleri arasında ve PKSD ile total kolesterol ve LDL-C düzeyleri arasında pozitif bir ilişki saptandı.SONUÇ: Bu çalışmanın sonucunda, MAS’lı hastaların lipit seviyeleri normal değerlerin üstünde olduğu ve kan lipid düzeylerindeki artışın, MAS’daki ağrı ve kas spazmının şiddetini etkilediği sonucuna varıldı. Bu konuda prospektif kontrollü çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
