Breast Sonoelastography

Abstract

Breast elastography is a new sonographic technique that provides additional information on breast lesions over conventional sonography and mammography. This technique provides information on the strain or hardness of a lesion, similar to a clinical palpation examination. Two techniques are now available for clinical use: strain compression elastography and shear wave elastography. Clinical trials suggests that this technique helps the characterization of breast lesions as benign or malignant. This improvement may substantially reduce the number of benign biopsies performed. This article reviews the basics of this technique, how to perform the examination, image interpretation, artifacts and the results of major clinical studies. Although elastography is easy to perform, technical knowledge is critical in order to obtain adequate images permitting a correct interpretation

Meme Ultrason Elastografi

Abstract

Meme elastografi, meme lezyonlarının karakterizasyonunda mamografi ve ultrasona katkı sağlayan yeni bir tekniktir. Bu teknik, tıpkı klinik palpasyonda olduğu gibi lezyonun gerilimi ve sertliği hakkında bilgi verir. Klinik kullanımında gerilim kompresyon elastografi ve shear wave makaslama dalgası elastografi olarak iki yöntem bulunmaktadır: Klinik çalışmalar bu tekniğin meme lezyonlarının benign- malign ayrımında faydalı olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu gelişme benign lezyonlara daha az biyopsi yapılmasını sağlayacağından önemlidir. Bu derleme, elastografi tekniğinin temellerini, incelemenin nasıl yapıldığını, görüntülerin yorumu, artefaktlar ve majör klinik çalışmaların sonuçlarını içermektedir. Uygulanması kolay bir yöntem olmakla birlikte doğru yoruma izin verecek yeterlilikte görüntülerin alınabilmesi için teknik bilgi çok önemlidir.
