Abstract

Objective: The aim of our study is to assess the degree of sexual dysfunction in the sexually active women diagnosed with the metabolic syndrome MS and to investigate the relationship between sexual function and metabolic syndrome. Method: Fifty-six women were included in this study. The patient group was composed of 37 patients meeting NCEPATP III criteria for MS whereas the control group involved 19 healthy women. The parciticipants' sexual fuction was assessed by “Index of Female Sexual Function” IFSF . Results: The mean age of the patients with MS was 38.38±9.6 years, whereas that of the control group was 35.95±7.64 years, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups. The IFSF score was 26.4±4.4 in the patient group and 27.5±5.2 in control group. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding IFSF score. In the control group there is negative correlation between the IFSF score and the diastolic blood pressure r =0.460, p
