Abstract
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to reveal the effect of the healthy life group training module, which was applied to individuals with schizophrenia and structured by the employees of Muğla Community Mental Health Center (CMHC), on the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia and the subjective recovery evaluations of individuals with schizophrenia.
Materials and Methods: Thirty participants with a diagnosis of schizophrenia followed in Muğla CMHC were included in the study. Participants were included in group interviews that lasted 40 minutes once a week for 5 weeks; before and after the group training, the Positive Symptoms Assessment Scale (SAPS), Negative Symptoms Assessment Scale (SANS) and Recovery Assessment Scale (RAS-DS) were administered to the participants.
Results: At the end of the group training, it was observed that there was a significant improvement in all subscales and the total scale score, except for the "SANS attention subscale" (p<0.05 for all parameters). Also, there was a significant improvement in SAPS total (p:0.041) and delusional subscale scores (p:0.030). In addition, there was a significant increase in the total and all subscale scores of the RAS-DS scale (p<0.05 for all parameters).
Conclusion: The results showed that the participants in the healthy life group training module experienced significant and positive changes in their disease symptoms and subjective improvement evaluations. The present study emphasizes the value of psychosocial interventions in the recovery process when planning mental health services for individuals with schizophrenia.
