Abstract

Bu kitap tanıtımı, Sami Arslan’ın Osmanlı’da Bilginin Dolaşımı: Bilgiyi İstinsahla Çoğaltmak adlı eserini ele alarak Osmanlı yazma kültüründe istinsahın teknik bir çoğaltma işleminin ötesinde, bilgi üretim ve dolaşım süreçlerinde belirleyici bir pratik olduğunu göstermektedir. Arslan’ın 1331–1557 dönemine ait 900 istinsah kaydını inceleyen çalışması, müstensihin metne müdahale eden, onu yorumlayan ve kimi zaman dönemin sosyal-siyasal atmosferini yansıtan aktif bir aktör olduğunu ortaya koyar. Eserde istinsah kayıtlarının tanımı, işlevleri, yapısal özellikleri ve özellikle Molla Lütfî örneği üzerinden taşıdığı historiografik potansiyel ayrıntılı biçimde değerlendirilir. Bu tanıtım, Arslan’ın çalışmasının yazma eser araştırmalarına sunduğu metodolojik katkıları ve müstensihi tarihsel bir özne olarak görünür kılma çabasını öne çıkararak, eserin yazmabilim literatüründeki yerini tartışmaktadır.

Abstract

This book review examines Sami Arslan's work, The Circulation of Knowledge in the Ottoman Empire: Reproducing Knowledge through Transcription, demonstrating that transcription in Ottoman manuscript culture was more than just a technical reproduction process; it was a decisive practice in the processes of knowledge production and circulation. Arslan's study, which examines 900 transcription records from the period 1331–1557, reveals that the transcriber was an active actor who intervened in the text, interpreted it, and sometimes reflected the social and political atmosphere of the period. The book provides a detailed assessment of the definition, functions, and structural characteristics of transcription records, particularly their historiographical potential as exemplified by Molla Lütfî. This introduction highlights Arslan's methodological contributions to manuscript studies and his effort to make the transcriber visible as a historical subject, discussing the book's place in the manuscript studies literature.
