Abstract

Doğu Akdeniz tarihinin yanıt bekleyen sorularından biri, Geç Antik Çağ’da ortaya çıkan tarımsal ve ekonomik hareketliliğin nedenleridir. Anadolu, Suriye, Lübnan ve Filistin kıyılarında yaşanan dikkat çekici gelişmelerin gerekçeleri hakkında net yanıtlar verilememektedir. Bu konu üzerinde çalışan bazı bilim insanları Roma İmparatorluk Dönemi’nden itibaren, doğudaki savaşlar nedeniyle bölgeye kaydırılan lejyonların Doğu Akdeniz’deki üretim hacmini arttırdığı ve ekonomiye hatırı sayılır bir canlılık kazandırdığı üzerinde durmaktadır.

Why did the Economy Flourish in the East Mediterranean during Late Antiquity? Roles of the Silk Route and Spice Route, LR1 Amphorae, and Other Evidence from Cilicia

Abstract

One question about the history of the East Mediterranean that still needs to be answered concerns the reasons underlying the economic vivacity observed during the Roman Imperial period and Late Antiquity. Clear answers have not yet been proposed for the noteworthy developments along the littoral of Anatolia, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. Some scholars underline the fact that the presence of Roman legions caused an increase in the volume of production, thus giving significant stimulation to the economy. However, military campaigns did not lead to the same level of development in every region
