COMPARISON OF TRANSABDOMINAL ULTRASONOGRAPHY AND CONTRAST-ENHANCED COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY RESULTS IN PROSTATE VOLUME MEASUREMENT

Abstract

Objectives:
In our study, we aimed to evaluate the correlation and differences between
contrast-enhanced Computed Tomography(CT) and Transabdominal
Ultrasonography(TAUS) in the prostate volume measurement.

Material and Methods: Fifty
patients were included in this study who had prostate volume measurements
performed by transabdominal ultrasonography and
undergone contrast-enhanced computed tomography at the same period,
between January 2015 and May 2017. Ultrasonographic (US) volume measurements
were retrospectively scanned. Prostate volumes were calculated by using
ellipsoidal formula on three planes of abdominal CT images of these patients.
The values of prostate volumes obtained
in US and CT were statistically analyzed.

Results: The mean age of the
cases was calculated as 60,52 ± 13,77. The median value of the volume of
prostate in CT and US calculated 42 cc and 36 cc, respectively. The difference
between measured prostate volumes in ultrason and computed tomography was
positive in Spearman correlation analysis and statistically significant
correlation was found(p<0,0001, r=0,89). The prostate volume measured in CT was
19% higher than in the US. As the prostate size increases, the difference
between the CT and USG measurements increases. However, this difference is not
statistically significant
(p=0,224).

Conclusion:
There is a correlation between transabdominal ultrasonography and
contrast-enhanced CT in the measurement of prostate volume. However, prostate
volume measured in CT is higher than TAUS (19%) and this difference should be
considered in operation and treatment planning.

Prostat Volüm Ölçümünde Transabdominal Ultrasonografi ile Kontrastlı Bilgisayarlı Tomografi Sonuçlarının Karşılaştırılması

Year 2016, , 272 - 279, 15.08.2016

Abstract

Ultrasonografik(US) volüm ölçümleri retrospektif olarak taranıp ayrı ayrı
kaydedildi. Bu hastaların Batın BT görüntülerinden görüntülerinde üç planda
elipsoid formül kullanılarak prostat volümleri değerlendirildi. US ve BT
prostat volümleri istatistiksel olarak analiz edildi.

Bulgular: Çalışmaya dahil olguların
ortalama yaşı 60,52±13,77 olarak hesaplanmıştır.  Prostatın BT hacmi median değeri 42 cc, US

arttıkça BT ve US ölçümleri arasındaki fark oranı artmaktadır.
