Oral and Dental Health Management and Dental Treatment Approaches in Children with Special Health Care Needs

Abstract

Children with special health care needs due to disabilities or chronic illnesses require individualized attention during dental treatment processes. Comprehensive medical and dental anamnesis, patient-specific treatment planning, and the application of appropriate behavior management strategies are critical for ensuring safe and effective care. This review discusses major topics including accessible clinical environments, communication techniques, behavior guidance methods, and the necessity for general anesthesia or sedation when indicated. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of continuity of care through the concepts of the dental home, teledentistry applications, and adherence to current clinical guidelines. Based on recent literature, it is suggested that personalized and holistic approaches in oral health management contribute positively to treatment outcomes in this patient population.

Özel Bakım Gereksinimi Olan Çocuklarda Ağız ve Diş Sağlığı Yönetimi ve Dental Tedavi Yaklaşımları

Abstract

Engellilik veya kronik hastalık nedeniyle özel sağlık bakımı gereksinimi olan çocuklar, dental tedavi süreçlerinde bireyselleştirilmiş yaklaşımlar gerektirmektedir. Güvenli ve etkili bir tedavi için kapsamlı tıbbi ve dental anamnez alınması, hastaya özgü tedavi planlaması ve uygun davranış yönetimi stratejilerinin uygulanması büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu derlemede, erişilebilir klinik ortamlar, iletişim teknikleri, davranış yönlendirme yöntemleri ile genel anestezi veya sedasyon gereksinimi gibi başlıca konular ele alınmaktadır. Ayrıca, dental ev kavramı, tele-diş hekimliği uygulamaları ve güncel klinik kılavuzlara uyum yoluyla bakımın sürekliliği vurgulanmaktadır. Güncel literatüre dayanarak, bu hasta grubunda ağız sağlığı yönetiminde bireyselleştirilmiş ve bütüncül yaklaşımların tedavi sonuçlarına olumlu katkı sağlayabileceği belirtilmektedir.
