Abstract

Olguların % 75,9’u erkek, % 24,1’i kadındır. Her türlü intoksikasyona karşı toplumsal farkındalık çalışmaları önemlidir.

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Deaths due to intoxication are classified forensically in the forced-death group. In this study, the aim was to examine intoxication-related deaths among medicolegal autopsies in Muğla. METHODS: For this purpose, intoxication cases were analyzed retrospectively in all medicolegal autopsies performed in a 7-year period between 2013-2019. RESULTS: In 3.7% of all medicolegal autopsies, the cause of death was intoxication. Of these cases, 75.9% were men and 24.1% were women. Substance abuse was the cause in 23.2% of intoxication cases, 19.6% are ethyl and methyl alcohol intoxication, and 57.2% are other intoxications besides substance and alcohol abuse. Carbon monoxide 19.6% , pesticide poisoning 11.6% , drug intoxications 10.7% hold the first three places in intoxication-related deaths other than substance and alcohol abuse, and other poisonings toxic gas, ingestion of corrosive substances, food poisoning, and snake bite or bee stings . Drug and alcohol intoxications in men and other intoxications in women are significantly higher statistically than the other groups. Deaths from intoxication other than alcohol and substance abuse are higher under the age of 20 and above the age of 60. CONCLUSION: In cases with a forensic medical suspicion of intoxication, samples required for histopathological and toxicological examination should be duly collected, and all results should be evaluated with the findings of the crime scene investigation at the decision stage. Social awareness studies against all kinds of intoxication are important.
