EVALUATION OF ANTEGONIAL ANGLE, ANTEGONIAL DEPTH AND BIGONIAL LENGTH IN SEX PREDICTION IN THE TURKISH PEDIATRIC SUBPOPULATION

Öz

Objective: It was aimed to investigate whether antegonial angle (AGA), antegonial depth (AGD) and bigonial length (BGL) measurements made with panoramic radiographs are a reliable method for sex estimation in Turkish children.
Materials and Methods: The study was retrospectively carried out on panoramic radiographs previously taken for different reasons in dental treatment of children. The study was conducted with a total of 180 panoramic radiographs of patients in primary dentition (4-6 years), mixed dentition (7-12 years), and permanent dentition (13-15 years) (n=60). Panoramic radiographs of 30 female and 30 male patients for each group, AGA, AGD and BGL were measured from the right and left sides by the oral and maxillofacial radiologist and their mean values were calculated. Independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to determine the relationship between all measurements by gender.
Results: In all age groups, AGA, AGD, and BGU parameters did not differ statistically between genders (p>0.05).
Conclusion: It was concluded that AGA, AGD and BGU measurements are not a useful method for gender estimation in the Central Anatolian Region child population.

TÜRK PEDİYATRİK POPULASYONUNDA CİNSİYET TAHMİNİNDE ANTEGONİAL AÇI, ANTEGONİAL DERİNLİK VE BİGONİAL UZUNLUĞUN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Öz

Amaç: Türk çocuklarında, panoramik radyografilerle yapılan antegonial açı (AGA), antegonial derinlik (AGD) ve bigonial uzunluk (BGU) ölçümlerinin cinsiyet tahmini için güvenilir bir yöntem olup olmadığının araştırılması amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma çocuk hastaların rutin dental muayene ve tedavileri amacı ile alınmış olan panoramik radyografiler üzerinden retrospektif olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmaya, süt dentisyon (4-6 yaş), karma dentisyon (7-12 yaş) ve daimi dentisyon (13-15 yaş) dönemindeki hastaların (n=60) toplam 180 panoramik radyografisi dahil edilmiştir. Her grup için, 30 kız ve 30 erkek hastanın panoramik radyografileri üzerinden AGA, AGD ve BGU parametrelerinin ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Cinsiyete göre tüm ölçümler arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek için bağımsız t testi ve Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: AGA, AGD ve BGU parametrelerinin, bütün yaş gruplarında, cinsiyetler arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık göstermediği bulunmuştur (p>0,05).
Sonuç: İç Anadolu Bölgesindeki pediatrik popülasyonda, AGA, AGD ve BGU ölçümlerinin, cinsiyet tahmininde faydalı bir yöntem olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
