Microbiologial and Pathologic Interaction Between Periodontal and Endodontic Structures

Yıl 2012, Cilt: 6 Sayı: 3, 1236 - 1243, 01.10.2012

Öz

The tooth and surrounding tissues have anatomical, physiological and pathological interrelationship. The relationship between the periodontium and the pulp is provided through apical foramen, dentinal tubules and lateral canals. In healthy tissues, this relation makes these tissues to be in communication with each other and to be fed and therefore helps to ensure the internal and external balance. Treatments of internal and external teeth structures or diseases are known to affect each other. In this review, our aim is to briefly look at the relationship of periodontal-endodontic infections, the importance of this relationship in spreading the infection, bi-directional effects of periodontal and endodontic treatments, in accordance with the current literature
