Synthesis of Polystyrene-Clay Nanocomposites, Investigation of Thermaland Optical Properties

Abstract
In this study, the organomodified clay (OVHAC) was synthesized by the cation exchanging of sodium montmorillonite clay (Na-MMT) with the quaternary ammonium salt, vinylbenzyldimethylhexadecylammonium chloride (VHAC) Polystyrene-clay nanocomposites (PS/OVHAC) were synthesized by in situ polymerization method. Organomodified montmorillonit clay and PS/OVHAC nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR technique. The interlayer spacing of the organoclay platelets and the polymer clay nanocomposites were determined by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. It was determined that the clay dispersion in the polymer matrix was exfoliated. Thermal behaviors and thermal degradation activation energies of nanocomposites were determined by thermogravimetric analysis method (TGA). Theoptical characterization of polymer thin films prepared by spin coating technique was tested with a UV-VIS spectrophotometer at 340 nm-700 nm wavelength range.

Abstract
Bu çalışmada, sodyum montmorillonit (Na-MMT) kilinin vinilbenzildimetilhekzadesil amonyum klorür (VHAC) kuaterner amonyum tuzu ile katyon değişimi gerçekleştirilerek organomodifiye kil (OVHAC) sentezlendi. Polistiren-kil (PS/OVHAC) nanokompozitleri yerinde polimerizasyon metodu ile hazırlandı. FT-IR tekniği ile organomodifiye kil ve PS/OVHAC nanokompozitleri karakterize edildi. Organokillerin ve hazırlanan polimer kil nanokompozitlerin tabakalar arası uzaklıkları X-ışını difraksiyonu (XRD) ile aydınlatıldı ve polimer matrisi içinde kil dağılımının exfoliye dağılım sergilediği belirlendi. Nanokompozitlerin termal davranışları ve termal bozunma aktivasyon enerjileri termogravimetrik analiz metodu (TGA) ile araştırıldı. Spin kaplama tekniği ile hazırlanan polimer ince filmlerin optik karakterizasyonu UV-VIS spektrofotometre ile 340 nm ile 700 nm dalgaboyu aralığında test edildi.
