The purpose of this study is to examine the use of professional and communicative competencies of English Language teachers in public Primary and Secondary Schools in Başakşehir and the levels of using them by the basis of various variables. Being a study on a relational screening model, this study investigated the effects of the demographic variables on the perceptions of English Language teachers towards their professional and communicative competencies. The stratified sampling of the research consists of 104 English Language Teachers working in public primary and secondary schools in the academic year of 2018/2019 within Başakşehir district of İstanbul Province. In the study, the English language proficiency and instructions of the levels surveys, that were developed by Ömer Faruk Cantekin, are used to determine the English Language teachers’ proficiencies. Their perceptions about their communication competencies are collected through the communicative proficiency scale which is developed by John Wiemann. As a result of the analyzes that are made on the quantitative data collected, in the context of professional competencies about English Language proficiency and the levels of acquisition and practice and also the teachers’ ability to transfer them into the class processes or to use them in educational activities are highly depended on to each other. However, having communicative skills, also explains the teachers’ level of acquisition about English Language Proficiency and some of the levels of using them.
