The purpose of this study is to examine the awareness of toilet training of mothers who have children in preschool period in terms of demographic variables such as of mother’s age, mother’s education level, mother’s income rate, mother’s number of children and the family structure which the child grows. The universe of the research consists of the mothers of 3 girls and 4 boys who were educated in the kindergarten in the Yenimahalle neighbourhood, Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul in the 2018-2019 academic year. The participants were included in study via criterion purposive sampling which one of the purposive sampling techniques. For determine the awareness of toilet training in mothers who participated in the study, the case study method was used one of the qualitative research methods. The interview questions which taking expert opinion and prepared by the researcher were directed to the participants in the focus group interview. At the end of this, research data were collected. The data collected in this study were analyzed by inductive content analysis method. As a result of the study, it was determined that mothers’ awareness of toilet training was not related to the educational level of mothers. It was determined that mothers’ awareness of toilet training was influenced by cultural, collective, unconscious outcome and led them to toilet training. It was detected that mothers did not know the proper toilet training and they made various mistakes in the process of toilet training to their children. It was found that, toilet training is important for mothers but they provided toilet training to their children with their own way, do not need any research. End of the study, ıt was concluded that mothers’ awareness of toilet training was low.
