This study evaluates the presentation of fundamental citizenship values and skills in social studies textbooks (grades 4-7). The study's data sources, which use the document analysis method, are the social studies textbooks taught in Turkey for grades 4-7. The "Framework of Fundamental Citizenship Values and Skills" developed by Gökçınar (2022) was used to evaluate the citizenship topics in the learning areas of "Individual and Society," "Active Citizenship," and "Global Connections" in terms of fundamental citizenship values and skills. The study results have shown that the textbooks most often included responsibility and freedom among citizenship values and political and legal literacy and participation among citizenship skills. In addition to the presentation of skills and values, their distribution by grade level was also evaluated. The results show that some associations are missing, although textbooks contain important content on citizenship values and skills. Based on these results, we suggested that the content of social studies textbooks should be improved about some citizenship values and skills.
