Fulminant hepatic failure due to ingestion of ecstasy: Case report

Abstract

Ecstasy became a common used drug by young adults because of its stimulant and hallucinogenic properties. However, many side effects of this drug have been reported before. Hepatotoxicity is also one of the rare side effect of this drug, and may be fatal. Fulminant hepatic failure due to ingestion of ecstasy has been reported as case reports, and clinical presentations and prognosis are variable. In this article, we have presented a case with fulminant hepatic failure due to ingestion of ecstasy. The case was recovered spontaneously by supportive therapy and liver transplantation was not needed.

Ekstasi kullanımına bağlı fulminan hepatit: Olgu sunumu

Abstract

Ekstasi maddesi, stimulan ve hallüsinasyon yapıcı özelliği nedeniyle özellikle gençler arasında sık kullanılan bir madde haline gelmiştir. Bununla beraber, bu maddenin birçok yan etkisi olduğu gösterilmiştir. Hepatotoksisite de bu maddenin seyrek görülen yan etkilerinden biridir ve fatal seyredebilir. Ekstasi kullanımına bağlı fulminan hepatit tablosu, olgu sunuları olarak bildirilmektedir ve klinik seyirleri ve prognozları da farklılık gösterebilmektedir. Bu yazıda, ekstasi kullanımına bağlı gelişen bir fulminan hepatit olgusu sunulmaktadır. Hasta destek tedavisi ile spontan iyileşmiş, karaciğer transplantasyonuna gerek kalmamıştır.
