Yaşlılarda Akdeniz Diyeti ve DASH Diyetinin Kan Glukoz Düzeyinin Korunmasına Etkisi

Year 2022, Volume: 6 Issue: 3, 226 - 235, 20.12.2022

Abstract

The Effect of Mediterranean Diet and DASH Diet on the Maintenance and Sustain of Blood Sugar Levels in the Elderly

Year 2022, Volume: 6 Issue: 3, 226 - 235, 20.12.2022

Abstract

Diabetes prevalence is high in elderly individuals. The focus should be on promoting healthier eating patterns in diabetic individuals, and it is also important to maintain individuals' enjoyment of eating while ensuring this. “Mediterranean cuisine"; It refers to a pattern or tradition that is effective in the development and protection of health, rich in aromas, highlighting the tastes and spirit of those who live in harmony with nature. With the Mediterranean-style diet and lifelong healthy eating habits, the possibility of chronic disease can be reduced or even prevented. The Mediterranean diet is associated with a lower risk for the incidence of diabetes, better glycemic control, and improved cardiovascular risk factors in diabetic patients. The DASH diet, which is one of the dietary habits that may have an effect on these factors, is characterized by emphasizing fruit and vegetables, whole grain foods, mineral-rich foods, low saturated fat intake and low sodium diet. Although the DASH diet is used to control cardiovascular health and hypertension, it can also be effective in providing long-term glycemic control and in the management of Type 2 diabetes. In this article, the effects of the Mediterranean diet and DASH diet on glycaemic control in diabetic elderly individuals were reviewed by examining recent evidence-based publications in the literature.
