Covid-19 Pandemisi Sürecinde Üniversite Tercihi Yapacak Öğrencilerin Koronafobi Düzeyleri ile Tercihleri Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Investigation of the Relationship Between Coronaphobia Levels and Preferences of Students Who Would Make University Preferences During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Year 2024, Issue: 16, 76 - 102, 31.07.2024
https://doi.org/10.46628/itbhssj.1469720

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted the education system globally. Students choosing a university have faced numerous concerns, including virus transmission risk, educational interruptions, and future uncertainties. This research aims to determine the coronaphobia levels of university-bound students during the Covid-19 pandemic and examine its effect on university preferences. The relational scanning model was used in this study. Data was collected via Google Survey from 451 participants, ensuring no missing data as all questions required responses. Before analysis, extreme values and normality assumptions were checked. The Skewness and Kurtosis values fell within the acceptable range, indicating a normal distribution suitable for parametric analysis. The study employed Independent T Test, Regression Analysis, and Pearson Correlation Analysis to test the hypotheses. Findings indicate that students exhibited moderate levels of coronaphobia, health concerns, and pandemic fears. Male students displayed higher fear of coronavirus than female students, and students aged 18-25 showed greater fear compared to other age groups. The relationship between the independent variable, coronaphobia total score, and the dependent variables, university preference scale sub-dimensions, was tested using simple linear regression analysis. In summary, the study reveals that coronaphobia significantly affects students' university preferences during the Covid-19 pandemic, with notable differences in fear levels based on gender and age. It has been revealed that coronaphobia is a significant and positive predictor of the university preference scale sub-dimensions, except for the sub-dimensions of information and students studying at the university.
