Abstract

The purpose of
this study is to investigate the relationships between university students'
online information search strategies, critical thinking dispositions and
decision-making styles. The participants of the study consisted of 370 students
studying at a university in Turkey. 225 of the participants are female and 145
are males. The data in the study were collected using the Online Information
Searching Strategy Inventory, Decision- Making Style Scale and UF/EMI
(University of Florida Engagement, Maturity and Innovativeness) Critical
Thinking Disposition Instrument. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis
and stepwise regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data
collected from the scales. According to findings in the current study, behavioral,
procedural and meta-cognitive domain of online information search strategies
were significantly predicted by critical thinking dispositions and decision
making styles. The Innovativeness
dimension of the critical thinking dispositions was found to be the most
important variable that predicts behavioral, procedural, and meta-cognitive
domains. Rational decision-making style, innovativeness and cognitive maturity
were found to be the predictors of meta-cognitive strategies. This finding
indicate that university students with higher disposition to think critically
can better interpret and evaluate the information on the Internet.

Abstract

Katılımcıların 225’i kız, 145’i ise erkektir. Araştırmadaki veriler, Çevrimiçi Bilgi Arama Stratejileri Envanteri, Karar Verme Stilleri Ölçeği, UF/EMI (University of Florida Engagement, Maturity and Innovativeness) Eleştirel Düşünme Eğilimi Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır.
