The best indicator of the scope of the journal is provided by the areas covered by its Editorial Board in theoretical (artificial intelligence and computing methodologies) and practical (artificial intelligence applications and applied computing) ways. These areas change from time to time, as the field evolves.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, unlike the natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals, which involves consciousness and emotionality. The distinction between the former and the latter categories is often revealed by the acronym chosen. "Strong AI" is usually labelled as artificial general intelligence (AGI) while attempts to emulate 'natural' intelligence have been called artificial biological intelligence (ABI). Leading AI textbooks define the field as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of successfully achieving its goals. Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is often used to describe machines that mimic "cognitive" functions that humans associate with the human mind, such as "learning" and "problem solving".

Computing Methodologies

Soft computing is a collection of methodologies, which aim to exploit tolerance for imprecision, uncertainty and partial truth to achieve tractability, robustness and low solution cost. The focus is to publish the highest quality research in application and convergence of the areas of fuzzy logic, neural networks, evolutionary computing, rough sets and other similar techniques to address real world complexities.

AI Applications and Applied Computing

Artificial intelligence, defined as intelligence exhibited by machines, has many applications in today's society. More specifically, it is "Weak AI", the form of AI where programs are developed to perform specific tasks, that is being utilized for a wide range of activities including medical diagnosis, electronic trading platforms, robot control, and remote sensing. AI has been used to develop and advance numerous fields and industries, including finance, healthcare, education, transportation, and more. AI researchers have created many tools to solve the most difficult problems in computer science.

The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behaviour for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher and the society of society-owned or sponsored journals.

Our journal follows COPE's recommendations for the peer review process, including the use of qualified reviewers, confidentiality, and timely review. We encourage transparency in the review process and disclose any conflicts of interest.

All submitted articles to the Artificial Intelligence Theory and Applications are to undergo a double-blind peer-review process. Our review board made up of 10 experts, attempts to reflect the goal of this journal which is to bridge the gap between academics and practitioners in the fields of intelligence and security. Our review board is comprised of experts who sit within both fields of academics and practitioners. Articles that undergo review are submitted to one academic and one practitioner, ensuring both perspectives are considered. Thereafter if both are approved it will move forward with editing, otherwise, the process will repeat again.
