Investigation of Developmental Theories of Giftedness According to Meta Theory

Abstract

By its nature, giftedness is a concept that is not easy to define. However, it is important from a scientific perspective to examine the theories related to this concept within the framework of certain criteria. Therefore, even if it is difficult to define the concept, it should be based on certain criteria. In this study, it was aimed to examine developmental theories of giftedness according to the four criteria proposed in “Ziegler and Heller's (2000) meta-theoretical model of giftedness”. For this purpose, the components of meta theory were explained. These can be listed as temporal priority, inus, personal characteristics and metatheoretical importance conditions. Then, Gagne's (2004, 2009) differentiated model of giftedness and talent, Tannenbaum's (1983, 2003) star theory and Sak's (2020) fuzzy theory were discussed. These theories of giftedness were examined according to the criteria of meta theory and a critical evaluation was made from the perspective of examining the theoretical studies in the field of giftedness with certain standards. It has been observed that the theories examined have a common emphasis on potential, the development of potential and the conditions affecting this potential. These can be associated with the conditions of temporal priority, inus and personal characteristics in meta theory. However, in order to ensure that the standard of metatheoretical significance is met, it may be useful to present study evidence related to the theories. Therefore, it can be stated that there are still uncertainties regarding the metatheoretical significance condition in the developmental giftedness theories examined.

Gelişimsel Üstün Yetenek Kuramlarının Meta Kurama Göre İncelenmesi

Abstract

Üstün yetenek doğası gereği tanımlanması çok kolay olmayan bir kavramdır. Ancak bu kavramla ilgili kuramların bazı ölçütler çerçevesinde incelenebilmesi, bilimsel açıdan bakıldığında önem taşımaktadır. Bu nedenle kavramı tanımlamak zor da olsa kuramlar, belli ölçütlere dayanmalıdır. Bu çalışmada gelişimsel üstün yetenek kuramlarının meta kuramda öne sürülen dört kritere göre incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Ziegler ve Heller (2000) tarafından ortaya konan meta kuramda yer alan bileşenler açıklanmıştır. Bunlar geçici öncelik, inus, kişisel özellikler ve meta kuramsal önem koşulları olarak sıralanabilir. Ardından gelişimsel üstün yetenek kuramları olan ayrımsal üstün zekâ ve üstün yetenek kuramı (Gagne, 2004,2009), yıldız modeli (Tannenbaum, 1983,2003) ve bulanık kuram (Sak, 2020) ele alınmıştır. Bu üstün yetenek kuramları meta kuram ölçütlerine göre incelenmiştir. Böylece üstün yetenek alanındaki kuramsal çalışmalar belli standartlarla göre eleştirel şekilde değerlendirilebilmiştir. İncelenen kuramlarda ortak olarak potansiyele, potansiyelin gelişimine ve bunu etkileyen koşullara değinildiği görülmüştür. Bunlar meta kuramdaki geçici öncelik, inus ve kişisel özellik koşullarıyla ilişkilendirilebilir. Ancak meta kuramsal önem standardının sağlandığından emin olmak için kuramlarla ilgili çalışma kanıtlarının sunulması yararlı olabilir. Dolayısıyla incelenen gelişimsel üstün yetenek kuramlarında hali hazırda meta kuramsal önem koşuluna ilişkin belirsizliklerin yer aldığı belirtilebilir.
