‘Hyper’ Technology for ‘Super’ Malls
Abstract
Shopping centers, especially in metropolitan cities like İstanbul, are growing at a very rapid pace in number. They’ve become to be ‘leisure areas’ where people spend a considerable amount of their ‘free time’ and not only shop, but also socialize in special facilities like video game rooms, sports centers, food courts etc... There is no doubt that in the highly competitive environment of the ‘super malls’, the usage of ‘new technologies’ can help to distinguish one mall from another, and provide a ‘unique’ edge to one. At this point it should be noted that the correct and ‘on the spot’ implementation of the above mentioned ‘new technologies’ is very important in this ‘Information Society Age’. Successful introduction requires good engineering, professional management skills, and a great deal of ‘follow-up’. It is not easy to maintain high quality services as such, but the prize you get in return more customers, more time spent in the mall, more consumption etc… is definitely worth it. Thus, in this paper, we aim to point out some of these ‘new technology’ concepts that would make a mall stand out and have a unique ‘identity’.
