THE ROLE OF ETHICAL CLIMATE IN THE IMPACT OF EXISTENTIALISM ON VALUES-CENTERED LEADERSHIP

In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationships between existentialism, value-centred leadership and ethical climate. In the research model, existentialism was used as an independent variable, value-centred leadership as a dependent variable and ethical climate as a mediating variable. The model is based on the mediating role of ethical climate in the effect of the freedom sub-dimension of existentialism on value-centred leadership sub-dimensions of value-oriented principledness and visionary. The data obtained as a result of the questionnaire survey with 420 managers working in 313 publicly traded companies based in Istanbul were evaluated using Structural Equation Modeling and the constructed model was tested. As a result of the research, it was found that there is a positive and significant relationship between existentialism and value-centred leadership. The effects of the freedom sub-dimension of existentialism on value-oriented principlism, visionariness and ethical climate were found to be positive and statistically significant. Regarding the mediating role of ethical climate in the relationship between the freedom sub-dimension of existentialism and value-centred leadership, it was found that freedom had a direct effect on value-oriented principledness and visionaryism and an indirect effect through ethical climate. In addition, it was determined that ethical climate partially mediates the relationship between freedom and value-oriented principledness and visionary.

Bu çalışmada varoluşçuluk, değer merkezli liderlik ve etik iklim arasındaki ilişkilerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma modelinde varoluşçuluk bağımsız değişken, değer merkezli liderlik bağımlı değişken, etik iklim ise aracı değişken olarak kullanılmıştır. Model varoluşçuluğun özgürlük alt boyutunun değer merkezli liderlik alt boyutlarından değer odaklı ilkelilik ve vizyonerlik üzerine etkisinde etik iklimin aracı rolü üzerine kurgulanmıştır. İstanbul merkezli 313 halka açık şirkette çalışan 420 yönetici ile anket çalışması sonucunda elde edilen veriler Yapısal Eşitlik Modeli yardımı ile değerlendirilerek kurgulanan model test edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucu varoluşçuluk ile değer merkezli liderlik arasında pozitif yönde ve istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişkinin olduğu görülmüştür. Varoluşçuluğun özgürlük alt boyutunun değer odaklı ilkelilik ve vizyonerlik ile etik iklim üzerindeki etkilerinin pozitif yönde ve istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olduğu belirlenmiştir. Varoluşçuluğun özgürlük alt boyutu ile değer merkezli liderlik ilişkisinde etik iklimin aracı rolüne ilişkin olarak da özgürlüğün değer odaklı ilkelilik ve vizyonerlik üzerinde doğrudan, etik iklim aracılığıyla da dolaylı etkisi olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca, etik iklimin özgürlük ile değer odaklı ilkelilik ve vizyonerlik arasındaki ilişkiye kısmi aracılık etmekte olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
