Okul Çağı Çocuklarında Migren ve Episodik Gerilim Tipi Başağrısı: Prevalans ve Karşılaştırmalı Klinik Bulgular

Year 2019, Volume: 5 Issue: 3, 453 - 459, 01.01.2019

Abstract

Migraine and Episodic Tension Type Headache in School Children: Prevalence and Comparative Clinical Findings

Year 2019, Volume: 5 Issue: 3, 453 - 459, 01.01.2019

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate and compare the demographic and clinical characteristics of migraine and episodic tension type headache ETTH in school children aged 6-17 years.Material and Methods: Stratified sampling was used in this school based, cross sectional, analytic study. A total of 5229 students from the city of Ankara who fully completed a questionnaire based on the International Headache Society Classification Criteria were included in the study. Results: The prevalence of recurrent headache, migraine, and ETTH were 64.8%, 9.3%, and 1.8% respectively. Migraine 56% and ETTH 53.8% were more frequent in female subjects. There was no significant difference between the migraine and ETTH groups with respect to age, sex, family history, analgesic use, and the localization and laterality of the headache p>0,05 . In both groups, the pain was mostly bilateral and the most common localization was the frontal region. The most frequent co-existing symptom was phonophobia in both groups. More than 10 attacks, attacks lasting less than one hour, pressing pain and mild pain were significantly more frequent in the ETTH group whereas throbbing pain, moderate or severe pain, and visual and sensory symptoms were significantly more frequent in the migraine group p
